Tinitus

Hi,

Does any one else here suffer from Tinitus? I have since I was about 15, or as long as I can remember (i dont ever recal being able to listen to silence ) and over the last 3 or 4 years it has got a lot worse ( in line with my blood pressure I got married 5 years ago so may be that has some thing to do with it ;) ). My BP is not signifently elevated so don't think that is the main cause.

I just wondered is any one else suffers and if so have you tried any treatments that have worked, or how do you go about managing it? I can't listen to masking noise as I don't have a form that it works for and generally wearing headphones just makes it worse.

For those who have not had the pleasure I can best describe the experience as some one blowing a high pitch dog whistle (you know the ones that are near the top end of you hearing range and really annoying !) 24/7 and loud enough that you have to struggle to hear people talking over it. I am thankful mine started so long ago much quieter and I have had 20 years to get use to the sound, I think if it started today like this I would go mad!

I have it but it comes and goes, and thankfully it has been gone for quite some time. They were linking mine to my TMD (Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders). Whenever that acted up, usually due to stress, my jaw would start clicking really bad, pain, tinitus, etc.

I luckily haven't had to do anything to try and cope with it long term, but I understand where you are coming from.

Hey that's intresting, I must look up TMD. I have had problems with my joints as well but never linked to the tinnitus. But to be honest half the doctors I have see the only response has been " live with it". I never thnk I am stressed but I know I am quite full on and don't really ever sit back. I am planning to introduce some more down time in my life.

I have it, but I just live with it most of the time. I am going to see a ENT specialist but I don't hold out much hope for it cause most of what I've read was to use a white noise generator, Kenny G, or live with it. So it'll probably be the latter. :)

I dont have it personally. But I do suffer from sinusitis, which sucks when that flares up. The best thing I've found to ease my sinus issues is my diet and making friends with Vitamin Shoppe. Just a thought. :)

Yup, Iv got it. I actually use a method of linking the sound with study material so it helps when I take exams. Kinda like when you associate a memory with a specific smell. I don't find it that annoying...but it can be deafening sometimes :/ (only once in a while though [which is odd since iv got low BP])

So it does seem a few here have it. I was interest to see if it is linked computer use as there are some reports that say so.

Sadly mine now affects my hearing, so it's not so much the noise that's annoying, but the fact I struggle to hear people talk.

Devil, you might want to get that checked. The reason I wanted to go to an ENT specialist was I wanted to rule out degenerative hearing loss which you need to catch early. At least it would be baseline for future checks. I too need people to speak up a little sometimes.

Oh I been seeing doctors and ENT for years. Last MRI scan was about 6 months back.

Years ago I had bouts with tinnitus. I eliminated caffeine from my diet and it almost completely stopped. It's a bit controversial, but it worked for me.
