I was wondering are there any well known, reconized software quality assurance certs? If so can you post the name or what organization provides it.

The only one I know that may fit what you're looking for are some of the cissp concentrations. The isc2 website should have more information.

I've never seen QA certificates in high demand for QA engineers at the employers I've worked for.

What will help you in a resume stack are a college degree, experience, and domain expertise. Also, familiarity with common tools, languages, and methologies used for testing and tracking bugs in your industry. Of course, if you go to the trouble of earning some random QA certification, you could always talk it up if your other qualities are sufficient to qualify you for an interview.
