How do you think of CWNA?

Hi guys, any thoughts about CWNA? Does it worth to get? Or I should go for the popular ones like CCNA? I didn't see any job postings asking for the CWNA.

I am starting to pursue the CWNA as we speak. I haven't seen any job listings asking for it yet either, but I believe wireless is here to stay and the wave of the future so I figure it certainly can't hurt to have it.

Of course the CCNA would probably be of more immeadiate use in your job search though. I'm with a good company at the moment so I can afford to go for the CWNA then the CCNA afterwards. As I do most of the wireless stuff here and my supervisor usually handles the Cisco stuff this works out well at work also.

Besides CWNA, another industry leading certificates are testing on the wireless networking? A Cisco certificate shown on my resume look better than Planet3, right?

Alas, the CCNA will carry you a lot farther than the CWNA. The CCNA is a "fundamentals" cert while the CWNA is a "specialty" cert.

After getting a CCNA, I would recommend going for both the CWNA and one of Cisco' Wireless LAN certs.

The CWNA is good start towards the CWSP...which can get you a pretty good job. icon_wink.gif

I have never seen it listed in any job ad. In my world, that's a huge no-go. Besides, IMO networking starts with the CCNA.

Being in Denmark, do you look at job postings for the USA? It does come up over here, although much more frequently on job boards that specialize in wireless.

Yup, I quite agree. The CCNA has become a fundamental networking cert that is a "must have" for all IT people looking to escape from behind the help desk.

Jdmurray, I don't look at job ads in the US, so I guess I can only speak from a Danish/European perspective :) As victorou hasen't listed his country of origin in his profile, it's up to him to research weather the cert is worth pursuing or not.

There are actually quite a difference between USA and Europe, when it come to the value of particular cert.

Did a search of uk jobsites and I could only find one job for a CWNA, and you need a load of other certs, infact I think Ten9t6 is the only one qulified to go for it

I know I'm pointing out the obvious here, but searching for a cert on job sites may be used as some sort of indication of how known the cert is, but hardly serves as an indication for whether the cert is worth getting considering a company who needs a wireless networking pro, may not know the cert and still be impressed with it. Apart from that, studying for the cert will gain you knowledge that will be worth something in any network career.
Or I should go for the popular ones like CCNA?
A CCNA will definitely be 'worth' more than a CWNA, simply because it's very well known, and more than half of the topics cover essential basic networking topics. The remaining topics cover configuring the world's most popular network equipment. If you want to specialize in wireless networking ('a' reason to go for CWNA), a CCNA will still be useful as it is a requirement for Cisco Wireless LAN Support Specialist (which by itself is not a requirement for becoming a wireless network specialist, but does hold some value).

If you do go for CWNA before CCNA, I suggest getting (in case you haven't yet) your basic network knowledge up to a Network+ level.
