It's both hilarious and scary that we've come to this point. And maybe there's something wrong with me because none of the example pictures on the front page tell me anything about how competent or influential someone is.

Exactly! When you consider the snap judgments that are made in the initial fraction of a second when someone first sees you I think it's only prudent to have your picture on a site such as LinkedIn be as positive as possible. However, as fredrikjj said, it is somewhat funny AND scary that we have come to this point....

Not a bad idea but I think a very big part of TE members are from the US so the other groups will be rather empty.
