I only add people I either worked with or trained with. I reject random strangers that try to link to me. I question the value of having 5000 contacts you don't know. The only person in my Linkedin connections I don't personally know / worked with is Stephen Northcutt, I figured when the director of SANS asked to connect to my linkedin account, would be a valuable contact. Not that I know what value I would be to him.Iristheangel wrote: »One of my childhood friends is a recruiter in San Jose. Thanks to him, I'm a third degree connection to everyone and their mother. I even discovered a few exes that I'm connected to through him.
Surprisingly your a 3rd degree connection to me, but would you really recommend me for a position? Somehow I doubt it, so what is the value here?Still searching for the corner in a round room. -

There has to be some incentive to be connected to people in the same field. Maybe I should only try to 'link' with people in HR.
