Re: 3rd Interview, what to expect.....

Well I wrapped up my 4th interview today. It started at 11am and we concluded at 1:15 pm. I interview with the Director (11-12:05ish) which was more of a who am I, my accomplishments/failures, strengths/weaknesses and why should I hire you. The interview went extremely well. The only concern that he had was that I've had 5 jobs since 2008. I informed him that Job 1; Relocated to another city, Job 2; Company folded, Job 3; Commute Hardship (2 hours one way with traffic), Job 4; Resigned as a contractor (security was at the bottom on the organization/no budget, didn't see my career progressing there), Job 5; Voluntarily Separated; Company wanted more of a engineer rather than an analyst, which I stated in the interview but they hired me anyway. I also gave the director my plan if hired what I would do on Day 1; which starts from understanding the business model to mapping out the network (information gathering).

After the director and I concluded he sent me back to the hiring manager and the team that I would be working with. This interview again was real relaxed conveying a lot of humor but more technical. So each guy (3) asked me about 6-7 questions each on high-level security/network technologies. I answered all questions correctly except 1 or 2 and I simply told them that I didn't know and I haven't worked with it. The team, the manager along with myself seemed more like I was already employed there, just the chemistry and the rapport. Well we concluded around 1:15 pm because the didn't want to keep me longer especially it going through lunch. During this time as well, I was sharing with them some vision diagrams that I put together, and they were very intrigued by them and requested if they could keep them. I said sure.

The hiring manager stated once again it was great having me here and speaking to me once again. He gave me a firm handshake and he'll be in touch with the agency that referred me.

I'm a little scared because during the 4 interviews, I was able to learn alot about the company, the environment and their vision which definitely coincides with mine which has me very excited in joining their team. I just didn't get any indicators that they will be moving forward or not. I didn't hear, "Well, we are in the process of reviewing other candidates, or anything negative but at the same time I didn't get any positive indications except for the dialogues between them (Hiring Manager and team) and myself.

I contacted my recruiter afterwards and he was blown away that the interview lasted 2 hours and some. I requested for him to send Thank you letters on my behalf in which he did. Haven't heard today since I left but that was about 6 hours ago, lol. Hopefully, I hear something soon.

4 interviews? Geez, I'd expect them to start giving you a parking spot and a desk. I don't think I've ever done more than 2 before getting hired.

Thanks for the encouragement ipchain, being unemployed for the last two weeks sucks especially with a 35 week pregnant wife, definitely getting scary. Getting ready to work at Wal-Mart and Home Depot soon.....

IMO a 4th interview means you got the job.

I just went through two rounds of interviews and though I felt they went reasonably well, I got no clear indication of where I ranked in their minds. I waited a few days after my final interview and put a call in to the hiring manager to see if they had made a decision (maybe not the best idea?) or if they had a timetable on selecting the candidate. They indicated they had couple more candidates to meet with but they would make their decision by X date. This at least gave me a target date to work with.

It was not the easiest thing waiting those two weeks. On the one hand they hadn't told me I didn't get the job which was a good thing, but they also hadn't told me I did get it, which isn't so great. On X date, late in the afternoon (talk about stretching it out), I got the call with the job offer.

I guess the moral of my story is, is there any way to find out their timetable for making a decision? It may or may not make the wait a little more bearable.

IMO you're hired. I have noticed that many companies(mostly the big ones) seem to have a unnecessarily long process of hiring candidates. Four interviews really is a lot and I'd agree it means you've got a new job.Good luck and let us know!

I signed a new contract 2 weeks ago and after the 4th interview i received an email with the job offer attached.

Four interviews mean they are interested and just want to make sure you are better than the other one competing, usually only 2 make it to the 4th interview then they make a decision.

As someone else said, some big companies have an unnecesary long process but usually it means YES you got the job.

Sorry to hear that, mate. That's alot of effort to put into an interview without a pay-off. Hopefully you've been pursuing other opportunities in the meanwhile that you can turn to.

Well, and just when you thought you had seen it all. Be glad you are not working for these folks - they sure do know how to waste someone's time. Things tend to happen for a reason, and I believe they actually ended up doing you a favor. There are plenty of security opportunities out there, so I am positive you will have no problems finding your dream job. Feel free to PM me if you need me to forward some emails over.

4 interviews? They were obviously stringing you along. They figured from your previous jobs that you were bad news. That may not be true but that's what happened. Honestly, I would've given them the finger after the third. I'm sick of companies not having the sac to tell people that they're not hired.

Well, its crazy because people bounce around all the time unfortunately majority of mine were beyond my control, I can't help it when I'm working around non-team players whom always have ego issues and like to withhold information. But for some reason the cynical employees always get the last laugh.

But I agree they should've just said that after the 2nd interview.

Annoys the hell out of me as well ... I have had that a few times .. 3-4 or even 5 interviews and no job. That is a lot of spare time / vacation (or even sick days) wasted for no cigar - HOWEVER - You eventually hit the jackpot - so keep at it

I knew it! I was about to ask the OP if this was in the healthcare industry. I've seen the same thing happen at two previous places (healthcare) were I worked. One of them even made me interview people after they fail the initial interview.

As others have said, don't beat yourself up. Move on to better/bigger things.

I feel your pain. I have my 4th interview with a company tomorrow with the president. Breezed through HR. Then had to interview with the Tier1 and Tier2 managers, even though the position is for Tier 3. Got him finally last week. HR called just the other day, saying all going well and need to meet the head honcho for the final hiring decision. I did find it interesting that you had the recruiter send thank you notes on your behalf. That's a new one for me. Ive always done them myself.

Reminds me of a part time gig I interviewed for a couple of weeks ago. Sent me through a phone and 2 face to face interviews only to get an email saying I didn't get the gig.

You have to remember, you will have other interviews. If your getting call backs that is good, your doing something right. Just getting your Resume looked at rather then pitched in the NO pile right off. Also in the interview when they ask if you have any questions make sure you have a few questions. That lets the Hiring Manager know you aren't just out to get a Job, but you want a Career. It's easier to get the position if the Hiring Manager knows your not going to job hop. It requires time and money to train a new employee, and most businesses don't want to spend that time and resources on someone that is going to leave in a year.
