need advice..next chapter or stay?

Hi All,

I need some advice from you guys.. Let me start, basically I'm working on IT as Network Administrator on a company for almost 3yrs+ now but I'm under agency supply to this company. My contract will be ending next month and basically I already submit my final vacation notice (rotation) to my boss and let him know that I will not signed my contract anymore with the agency again. I told them my situation that I don't find any future under the agency and I cannot take it anymore the pay cut they got from me. Then my boss told me that he will do his best to direct-hire me but his not promising 100% and if things not going well, he want me to be still part of his team. I just answered that I understand him but not not answered any promise that I will stay. My plan is to study full time for my CCIE RS Lab if I'm not hired directly and find another job after my lab exam. Do you think this is a good move or should I find a new job first or stay under agency again?

Honestly it never hurts to quietly start looking around. I'm one of those who never stops looking for a new job. No I don't jump jobs often, but you just never know what is out there so I'm always looking.

You are right, actually there was a manage services that is waiting for me to attend my final interview with the hiring manager. I already passed the technical interview but still not sure if they will hire me eventually. I got almost 6Yrs of experience now and this is my longest stay 3yrs+ so far in a company up to date. I hope that my situation with my boss will be finalize soon so I can plan accordingly.

I agree with Jackace, it's good to keep looking around. Try to come up with a Plan B in case this current role doesn't work out. As long as you find a position that you enjoy and pays well (whether it's your current one or a new one) then that's what matters. Good luck!

My boss just talked to me and tell me that they already worked it out with HR and VP and give feedback later this month or early next month. I hope this will be positive

If not, plan B will take place.. Anyone on the same situation?

@Ivanjam - Actually I'm not a citizen of US of A but planning to migrate to AU or CA.. Want to try my luck in those two countries

I think it's a better idea to study for CCIE Lab while being employed. Stay employed, it's far easier to find another job when you are employed than when you're not employed

I also agree you should start looking - it never hurts. Why not have more options even if you don't end up using them? It is better to have looked and found some than to be up against the wall needing a job, if for some reason it turns out that way. Additionally, what UnixGuy said is extremely true - there is a great difference when you look for a job while being employed and it is certainly not to your advantage.

you have way more leverage looking for a new job when you already have one. i'd look diligently while still employed.

Last week I got their first offer but it turns out to be 9% increase from what I got from the agency. I discussed it with my manager that I'm not happy/satisfied from what they offered to me. He then make his way to come-up with another offer which is 44% increase from what I'm getting now.. I can say that this time is much better!

I'll be signing the contract today/tomorrow,up to me.

Now, since nothing is bothering me anymore, I can get my hands-on back on CCIE LAB practice tonight!
