suggestions for 10 or 40Gb switch ?
Going to need to start looking around for a 10Gb optical switch for work.
Purchase time frame is july to nov this year.
New building is going to be optical 10Gb connections and for
a visualation studio we're looking after they've given us 6 10Gb connections.
(but no local storage even though files range from 10 -200GB ea talking display of 8000 by 2000 in active 3d)
Rule is have to all storage on the san in main building 100m away but we only have a single 10Gb connection between buildings for 300+ staff and students and for voip use as well.
Any suggestions for moderately priced 10Gb or 40Gb switches 8 - 16 port sfp+ ?
Have a budget of 10k
We were looking Dell PowerConnect 8024F but its been discontinued and replaced by 8100 series which don't seem to be available here (Australia) yet.

Most stuff gets here eventually but can take an extra 6 months+
We usually get some fairly decent discounts from Dell ,HP and Cisco as we're part of a uni.
The switch will be connecting the main rendering systems (plus storage and maintenance access)
from master to 4 -6 rendering machines (2 lots in parallel) + effects control units and sensors (user tracking, green screen etc)Goals CCNA by dec 2013, CCNP by end of 2014 -

Sorry, I didn't read your full post before I pasted those links. Both of those switches are under 10K, we bought our VDX for about $6K a pop after we reseller washed it. The 10GB LR optic is going to run you. We have 2 10KM 10GB optics and I think they were $2500 a piece.
