Which subnet does host 172.18.179.147 255.255.255.0 belong to?I'm quite new to CCENT. I would be glad if any of you guys could help with a step by step approach how to arrive at the 172.18.179.0 answer.

pius1919 Registered Users Posts: 4 ■□□□□□□□□□Thanks for the effort. I figured it out. I'm just beginning to understand this subnetting stuff. I was getting confused with it being a Class B network. The "magic number" here is '1'.
172.18.179.0 = network ID
172.18.179.1- 254 = Valid hosts
172.18.179.255 = Broadcast Address.
172.18.180.0 = next subnet. because of 255.255.255 -

AND...if the mask would have been 255.255.255.128, you would have been in the 172.18.179.128 network.
Because:
Your subnets would have then been:
172.18.179.0 containing the valid hosts 172.18.179.1 - 172.18.179.126 and your broadcast of 172.18.179.127
AND
172.18.179.128 containing the valid hosts 172.18.179.129 - 172.18.179.254 and your broadcast of 172.18.179.255
