You need to be VCP5 which does require training.

Can I take the VCP4-DT Exam if I do not have the VCP4-DCV or VCP5-DCV requirement? The VCP4-DCV or VCP5-DCV certification is required in order to be certified VCP4-DT; however, the VCP4-DT Exam can be taken prior to achieving VCP4-DCV or VCP5-DCV certification.

The Desktop exam requires you understand the underlying infrastructure of vSphere since it sits on top of that. Cart before the horse.

Changes are afoot - there will be a new combined vSphere/View exam coming soon - in-line with the new combined vSphere/vCloud Director exam now available to achieve VCP-Cloud.

I don't know, but expect there will be a training requirement, I'm guessing it will be a View class...
