Hi everybody,
I currently work at a large university in which there is one central IT office and several smaller IT departments supporting specific schools on campus. I work in one of the smaller IT departments in a Helpdesk position and have been here for a little over 3 years (plus about 2 years working for main IT office helpdesk under contract). I love where I am but unfortunately there is no promotional opportunity for me and I would really like to move on to become a System Administrator. A week ago I applied for a Systems Analyst position at the main office and received a call from HR today scheduling a phone interview for me for next week. I'm so excited, but nervous at the same time!
I think my main selling point is that I've been with the university for a while and think that my supervisors will give me a good review if asked. In my current position I have worked with Active Directory and Group Policy but not at a systems administrator level, only the basic functions. I have passed the 70-640 exams few years ago (Active Directory, configuring) but I know I have a lot to learn. In my current position I'm responsible for creating and maintaining Windows images and assisting our staff in troubleshooting day-to-day helpdesk problems. My newest big project at my job which I'm really excited about is testing SCCM as a possible solution to deploy windows images over the network (instead of using a hard drive duplicator).
I'm worried that I won't get the job because I have little to no experience doing system administrator work. But I guess they must've liked something about my resume and cover letter that they decided to schedule a phone interview with me

How technical should I be on the first interview? If this is an HR interview the person probably won't be too tech savvy. What questions should I be asking?
Sorry if this sounds really silly. I was just thinking about it and thought I would write about it and see what guys think.
Thank you!!
