Got the Job!! (Tentative)

Got the call today and I was selected for the position. The just of it is, I'll be in a audit/regulatory role with the Gaming Commission as it relates to online gambling in my State (from the security side). Two things have to happen as of right now:

1. The position needs to be approved by the Governor's Office (no idea how long this will take)
2. I need to pass the background check (this can take up to six months)

My finances aren't the greatest, but I've never missed a payment or anything like that. Plus I honestly never made a lot of money to begin with, but that isn't an excuse as it is my own fault. But I feel like I will be ok.

Starting pay is $63000 per year (a $22k jump for me when not factoring in my bonus), four weeks of vacation, fifteen days of sick time, thirteen holidays, and three personal days.

    Congratulations!!!
    Sounds like a cool job, with a nice bump.

    That sucks about the possible 6 months delay. Wow!
    And dealing with any kind of government official is never fun.
    Good luck and congrats.

    Does that mean you are going to take it back if the job falls through?

    @OP,

    Grats man, sounds like a nice pay increase with some great vacation options. I hear state jobs are the best, and this is just more proof of that. Hope all goes well.

    But... six month for a background check?

    Thanks everyone! It's funny you ask about the six months, I said the same thing and the only thing the guys interviewing me had to say was when they went through it (20 years ago) it took that long. I don't expect it to take more then a month, two at the most.
