Designing a Network-IP addresses

SherraSherra Member Posts: 8 ■□□□□□□□□□
i have such a problem:
Their head office is based in Johannesburg with 2 regional offices in London and China. Connections to these regional offices should have minimum downtime, so a reliable technology and design is required. The data that is transmitted is not bandwidth intensive.
Company XYZ has a couple of mobile Sales reps that are always on the road and a small branch (8 users) in Cape Town, both of which will need secure access the internal network in JHB HO. Although not business critical, HO requires an internet line with sufficient bandwidth for its users.
Company XYZ has decided to use the IP range 172.16.0.0 /22 that will be used to assign IP addresses for both regional offices and JHB HO. This range will also provide some extra IP addresses that can be used for future grow or for the possible development of another regional office in America. The IP ranges must be divided into equal sizes and assigned in such a way to take full advantage of route summarization to ease overhead on the routers.
The Number of nodes based JHB HQ is as follows (regional offices around same size):
  • Marketing & Accounting 25 users
  • Payroll 10 users
  • Factory 100 users
  • Engineering 19 users
  • IT 8 users
  • Servers 6 servers
QUESTION:Draw up a logical topology of Company XYZ connections to the regional offices. In this drawing also indicate and explain how the Sales teleworkers and the Small branch in Cape Town will get connectivity with HO based in Johannesburg. Give a description (Motivate) of the type of connection used and the bandwidth of each link (be realistic). Also indicate the IP ranges that you will assign to JHB and the 2 regional offices and the remaining IP range that will be kept for future growth.

HERE IS MY ANSWER: (PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I AM DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT HERE)
Thank you!

JHB HO: 172.16.0.0/24
LONDON:172.16.0.1/24
CHINA:172.16.0.2/24
AMERICA:172.16.0.3/24

JHB NODES:
FACTORY: 172.16.0.0/25
MARKETING & ACCOUNTING: 172.16.0.128/27
PAYROLL: 172.16.0.160/28
IT: 172.16.0.176/28
SERVERS: 172.16.0.192/29
LOS ANGELES: 172.16.0.200/28
remaining IP range for future growth: 172.16.0.216 to 172.16.0.254

I think, We have a star topology with JHB HO at the centre and the regional offices, the sales teleworkers and cape town branch revolving around it. the 2 regional offices use a copper wire cable category 5; the sales teleworkers and cape town branch use a VPN. The bandwidth on the wire can be 100Mbps
What could the bandwidth be for the VPN connections (if those are VPN connections?)
Thank you all!

Since this is clearly a homework assignment or something, I'm going to leave working out the why to you, but...

    Major problem here.

Hi astorrs, and thank you for your reply...

the reason why i chose the following subnets for each regional office:
    JHB HO: 172.16.0.0/24
    LONDON:172.16.0.1/24
    CHINA:172.16.0.2/24
    AMERICA:172.16.0.3/24
is because we were given 172.16.0.0/22 and asked to divide the ip ranges into equal sizes.
given 172.16.0.0/22, the next subnet is 172.16.0.4 so i was thinking all my four ip ranges written above just fit well for the answer

    Hi Astorrs,

Of course i made a typing mistake!! haha, only seeing it now! It is supposed to be
    JHB HO: 172.16.0.0/24
    LONDON: 172.16.1.0/24
    CHINA: 172.16.2.0/24
    AMERICA: 172.16.3.0/24

    JHB NODES:
    FACTORY: 172.16.0.0/25
    MARKETING & ACCOUNTING: 172.16.0.128/27
    PAYROLL: 172.16.0.160/28
    IT: 172.16.0.176/28
    SERVERS: 172.16.0.192/29
    LOS ANGELES: 172.16.0.200/28
remaining IP range for future growth: 172.16.0.216 to 172.16.0.254

DO YU THINK A VPN CONNECTION IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR THE SMALL BRANCH IN CAPE TOWN AND THE SALES TELEWORKERS?
