entering the field purely based on academics

I have a buddy that says coming into a company as a coop student is much better than trying to do it based off certs. Anyone here did it that way or know of folks who did?
CCENT, CCNA(EXPIRED), BS Electrical Engineering (Communications/Optics/Nanotechnology)

    I'm having a hard time understanding your question... Are you asking if it's easier to get a job with academics/degrees rather than certifications?

    Depends entirely on the company. If the company doesn't have a coop plan then obviously that isn't going to work.
