IGRP question

I have a small question that I want to clarify before i move on to eigrp. im using the sybex ccna study guide 4th edition textbook and boson netsim 5.7 to self-study and i was configuring a small network with RIP.
After getting all three routers to see each other using RIP i wanted to move on to using IGRP.
I went ahead and enable IGRP without disabling RIP for all three routers, i used the sh ip route command to verify the routing table and i still see the discovered routes using RIP [R] instead of IGRP
Todd Lammle stated that once IGRP is enabled it should bypass RIP since IGRP has better administrative distance than RIP.
I used no router rip on all routers and it worked, all routes have now been discovered using the IGRP protocol instead.
My question is do i use no router rip on the exam or should IGRP overwrite RIP by default?

johnnynodough Member Posts: 634The routing table should populate with both RIP and IGRP routes, but the IGRP paths would be more believable since they have a lower adminstrative distance. On the exam you would want to negate RIP unless the specifcally state that both should be running.
Also, Boson NetSIm is full of so many bugs its not even funny. Just for giggles, now that all your routes are learned via IGRP, enable RIP and see what happens. ALso recreate the situation and issue a clear ip route command and see what happens.Go Hawks - 7 and 2
