I want to move to Texas

JasionoJasiono Member Posts: 896 ■■■■□□□□□□
Or somewhere south where the house market is better than pa. Houses here are god awful expensive and the taxes suck.

I heard sugar land Texas is a great area. My only dilemma is my job situation. The company I work for only has 2 offices, one here and one in Virginia.

Are there companies out there that will interview people via Skype ?

I could try lexis nexis, since they are our parent company and they have buildings all over the world

If a company is willing to hire non local candidates then they are usually going to be flexible in the interview process.

I want to move to Texas as well.

I'm planning on just saving enough for a few months rent/food/bills and hit the ground running when I get there - applying to everything I see.
Possibly a bad idea, but I'm sure it'll be fun and exciting. If worse comes to worse, I'll just move back to NJ when the money runs out.

That's something I would do too but I have a newborn daughter lol. My wife can work anywhere in the world with her computer from home as long as she can fly back to pa to get her VPN certificate renewed once a year

A lot of job postings say local candidates only. No harm in applying if they don't specifically say so.

Usually in this situation - the concern of the employer is whether if a prospective candidate will expect relocation compensation. If you are clear that you are willing on relocate on your own dime - then it's should not be an issue for the prospective employer.

    Good luck!

Ah ok. Thank you for pointing that out! I'll put that into my résumé or elsewhere so that they can see that.

Moving to Austin in 2 weeks.

When I updated my resume with Austin as the location I literally got 10 calls a day for 2 weeks straight.

I would recommend possibly not listing an address on your resume when you apply, just name/phone/email and once you get the call explain to them you want to relocate, and mention if you are willing to do it on your own dime (more likely to consider you as equal to local candidates).

So you put Austin in the address field on your resume? I just found a couple of companies to which I applied to. The minimum salary is more than I expected to see for what I am looking for. I mainly want a helpdesk position to start with until I get my Bachelors in security from WGU. I was looking in the 40k range, but everything I see that has a wage on it is in the 50s, not that I mind!

Yes I did, but this was after I signed a lease. I am currently contracting in Afghanistan and not looking to come back until September probably anyway at this point but I am going to Austin either way because it seems awesome.

I think there are quite a few big name helpdesks in Austin.
