Expire date of Exams

It states on the microsoft forum that Windows 2008 expire in July 2013. Daft question, but can you not take them after this date or does it mean the qualifcation has changed from MCSA to an update exam ? As you know, i'm studying for the 70-640 exam.

    Where does it say that?

The only exams expiring in July 2013 are 70-643 and 70-647. Both are part of the old MCITP: EA which is also expiring. Now they are going towards an MSCA / MCSE model. The 70-640, 642 and 646 are all still valid for another year in a half and if passed will give you the MCSA title.

I'm doing my best ! I have my own home server, HP 350 G5 with 16gb Ram...is it worth creating a few Vlan's to create a home test network ? If so how would i go about this ?

Absolutely. It's been a little over a year since i passed my 640 so i can't remember exact details - but i do know that it would be worth having your clients actually connecting to a DC and seeing how this work together. I know that type of stuff is invaluable for the 642 which emphasizes WSUS, DNS, RRAS, RADIUS - all things that require multiple PC's in a server / workstation environment to really see how they work together.

I've read a lot of books, but i never really got how RRAS and some DNS functionality (like secondary and stub) worked until i had multiple servers working off of each other. IE, like having RRAS work with a RADIUS server to pass authentication and accounting to a centralized NPS server.

what if I passed 70-643, 70-647 before expiration date, and all other exams after? (70-640,70-642,70-643). Can I get MCITP: EA in this case?

ALL exams must be passed by July 30, 2013 according to a webchat I had with Microsoft. This includes: 640, 642, 643, 647 and 680. As the title is expiring, ALL exams must be passed by July 30 if you want the EA title.

So the MCSA and MCSE acronyms are back - but with different meanings? Interesting.

So does this mean you can still take the 640 after july 31st but its just rebranded ?

Yes, that is correct. Basically, the certification called MCITP:SA is being retired, but the exams that form it are not. It means that if you pass 70-640, 70-642 and 70-646 after the 31st of July you will receive the MCSA certification instead of the MCITP:SA certification. If you pass them prior to that date you get both on your transcript, but there's no real benefit to that beyond having it on your CV.

    70-640 Not retiring
    70-642 Not retiring
    70-643 Retiring July 31
    70-647 Retiring July 31
    70-680 Not retiring
Title: MCITP: Enterprise Administrator Retiring July 31
Title: MCITP: Server Administrator Retiring July 31
Title: MCITP: Server Administrator renamed MCSA (Microsoft Certified System Admin)

    TL;DR: MCSA stays (70-640, 70-642,70-646), MCITP: EA retires July 31 (70-640, 70-642, 70-643, 70-647, 70-680)

Yep, the 70-647 was due to be retired on the 31st July 2014 but someone I know emailed Microsoft and they said it wasn't being retired now...

    HTH.

As I can see from the list o exams scheduled to retire there are only two WINDOWS exams that are scheduled to retire on July 31st 2014. These are 70-682 and 70-684.
    Best, sacredboy!
