Passed ICND1 and now CCENT certified

I wanted to send out a thread to say that I passed my CCENT cert on Saturday!!! It wasn't a great score, but passing none the less. Very happy, and now it's onto the ICND2 test.

The materials I used to study were:
  • Odom's CCENT/CCNA ICND1 640-822 Official Cert Guide (3rd Edition)
  • Bryant's CCNA Video Boot camp I purchased via Udemy
  • http://www.ine.com with Brian McGahan
This should give me time (hopefully) to get the ICND2 test passed before the end of Sept.

I appreciate it sir. I have heard the ICND2 is more difficult. The good thing is I am a bit above my timeline curve in regards to going after the next cert. But I am not relaxing off what needs to be done.

Congrats on the pass! Good luck on the ICND2!

Out of curiosity, how much emphasis did you put on labbing for the ICND1? You don't mention what methods you used to lab in your study materials.
    Goals for 2018:
Certs: RHCSA, LFCS: Ubuntu, CNCF CKA, CNCF CKAD | AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect Pro, AWS Certified Security Specialist, GCP Professional Cloud Architect
Learn: Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus & Golang | Improve: Docker, Python Programming
    To-do | In Progress | Completed

I do think it's important to do some lab for this. However, for the ICND1, I don't think you need actual equipment. I used Packet Tracer to do lab. I concentrated on the core module items. Which was RIP v1 and v2. Practiced things such as debug options, show commands, CDP commands. All in all, having something to do simulations with will help for the ICND1. Good luck!

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.

Well although he can be very dry at times, I like the format offered within Udemy. Not sure if you utilize the site or not...but once you purchase his course, you technically own it. And there are options to download the material to whatever device you choose. I download and then speed up the audio (because he talks slowly, or because I want to skim through certain parts of the material). But overall he is thorough and does/did help me with learning some. Having said that........I think it is VERY important to note that I took Cisco certs trying to go strictly through video training and their various syllabus outlines, and for me I didn't do as well. I had to bite the bullet and actually read and sometimes re-read several times in order to grasp a concept or module. It is my opinion that you should use the videos only to supplement your learning as you gear up for the certification, rather than relying mostly or all on video training. And last bit of advice. I had no practical experience with going for the CCNA cert, when I started pursuing it. I passed Comptia Security+ and Network+. So I figured, I will just take the all in one exam. I failed twice, before I decided to go the two test route. If you are in the industry and actively using Cisco core module components, perhaps the one test route works for you. But if you are like me a newbie, my suggestion...swallow the pride and go the two test option. Less material to study, and allows you to focus in and really learn better. Just my take. Good luck to you sir!
