Three Months in - Field Technician

Alhaji265Alhaji265 Member Posts: 205 ■■■□□□□□□□
I am an field tech. walker in which I replace damaged parts for consumers (business and residential). It is three months into this role and IMO I rate myself of 5 out of 10. So far, the remote manager only gives calls to the top tech and for the one who are either new or not up to par yet, doesn't get calls for the day. Also, not only my work is suffering, I feel that I rub off my co-workers, most likely my office manager, who does the same work I, do due to my aggressive personality and the way I carry myself. In what ways can I improve before moving on to my next gig? Thanks in advance.

Why not ask to shadow the other technician when you dont get calls? maybe try talking to your manager? Not much info for us to go on. But it sounds like an awful situation.

If you don't get a call for the day, what do you do instead?
Do you get paid if you don't go on any calls?

Make sense, thing is I have shadowed before and the veteran techs. work quickly while I'm still working on my speed; My manager stated on the conference call, that there will be days were he has no choice but to not give calls to few people due to low call volume.

I stay at the office studying on my CCNA but lately I head home afterward; I get paid one hour for being at the office.

@pinky, would it be best to ride it out until more work orders becomes available (which I was told in August)? My résumé is shaky at the moment and I plan on staying for a year.

I mean its up to you. If you are living at home and can swing it until then, and if you think by then you will actually have more tickets than give it a try. However, having days where you only get paid for an hour seems tough, especially in NYC. I would use that extra time to study though and get a few certs. However i personally would probably try to find some steady employment.
