Switch to Switch Link

in CCNA & CCENT
Hi guys,
I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong here, I have two clean (no configs to speak of) 2950 switches - I'm trying to get them up and running with two trunk links between the switches. I'm using two CAT5e cables from switch A to switch B (for the trunk links) and then switch A has an interface that runs to an 830 router.
Am I incorrect in my thinking that at least one of these links should come up upon plugging in the cable (I understand one may go down shortly after due to spanning tree)? I have moved the cables around to a couple different ports with the same results - I've even tried known working ports (tested with the router) to no avail.
Am I missing something obvious here? Thanks!

Combination of GNS3 and Cisco equipment if required.
Yep, check if they are crossover cables? 2950 does not auto-detect or let you use straight cables between like devices.
