Hello all.
I'm in the Air Force and I have 2 years remaining before I separate. So far I've completed my CCAF in Criminal Justice because I'm in Security Forces and CCAF goes with your AFSC. Anyways I've also completed roughly 30 credits worth of CLEPS for combined total of 109 credit hours.
I"m waiting on Excelsior College to eval my transcript because they will accept more credits than any other school and I would like to knock my bachelors out as soon as possible. I want to complete their BS-IT in Network Management or Information Security still deciding.
My first question has any one had any experience with Excelsior and can give me an idea on the difficulty of the courses? I'm 100% sure I will have to take a few course with them cause I have no credits currently related to technology besides 2 cleps.
Again I have 2 years left in the military I'm hoping to knock this BS out in a year which means taking on a few classes at a time.
Now on to the next question which is very popular at TechExams and that's WGU. After I complete the BS at Excelsior I would like to go to WGU and do the
M.S. Information Security and Assurance degree. How long would this degree take to complete and how challenging is it? I know a standard MS takes about 2-3 years to finish. But WGU does have a few certs that can easily be knocked out if you put in the work. Anyone have any experience with completing this degree?
Now the biggest problem isn't paying for school or doing the required work cause I have goals to complete. The biggest problem is that I have no IT related experience besides what I've self learned. And trust me I've been trying to cross train into a different career field in order to gain the experience but that's impossible with how the military is now.
So will have degrees and no experience hurt me in the end? I can self study for IT certs after my degrees are completed. I also have a secret clearance. But again no experience. And where I am now its impossible to gain experience until I get out but getting a degree is easy while I'm in the Air Force.
That's my questions and issues please any legitimate suggestions would be very helpful! Thank you!!
