Got a (kinda) IT job, but what now?

Hello forum.

I got a job was a it repair technician (retail repairs, laptop screens, data recovery, apple products, screen replacements etc).

Im only in this for 2 months, but wondering what my options are now regarding progressing my career.

In this current job, I could be earning a nice living after a year since its a new business and not yet established, but i would be giving up the dream of being a network engineer. I have much better options now moving jobs in the same area but its still not good enough for tech support.

Im wondering if anyone started the path doing hands-on repairs like this and went onto tech support. Would 3 months not be enough in this new position to give me a better chance of getting a tech support role? Its much better then retail and ive learn a hell of alot that they don't teach you with the enter level certs (plus I can fix iphone, ipod and ipad screens, which is handy).

Any advice?

Someone who works on routers and switches for a living doesn't need to be able to fix iPhones, iPods, or iPad screens. It isn't even remotely helpful. There are protection plans and IT help desks to cover those. While I'm sure it took time/effort to learn these things, they aren't particularly relevant, whereas what an entry level networking certification covers certainly is. The most important things you will take from this job will actually be the interesting customer interactions. I know folks who started there.

Three months of customer-facing IT work history is very helpful, although the key factors if you have zero experience will be your personality, education, and/or certifications. Other factors to consider: (a) Do you already have a job that is customer-facing or IT related? If so, there's less cause to jump. (b) How long have you worked for your present employer, since job-hopping is frowned upon? (c) Which job will give you more time to study for the stuff that really matters--school and certifications?
