I got an 874!

Holy crap that was a relief. I hardly got two hours of sleep.

Typing on my phone, will post more later. But thanks TE for all your help, particularly those of you who recommended grabbing Boson exSim max, that may have tipped me over the edge in terms of making sure I had studied and reviewed the right topics.

Thanks, all! I originally studied for the composite and I've got enough of ICND2 down that I feel comfortable scheduling it at the end of the month. That's in the middle of summer break so I will have a full week of free nights to lab, take practice tests and study. We'll see, though! I have to set all this aside until Sunday and do all the homework I've been blowing off to study Cisco, but on Sunday night I'm going to run through Lammle's EIGRP and OSPF Packet Tracer labs and reread the IPv6 chapter.

    I used:

    Todd Lammle's CCNA (7th edition)
    Todd Lammle's CCNA Review
    Wendell Odom's ICND1 (3rd edition)
    CBT Nuggets
    Boson exSim MAX
Packet Tracer 5.3.1 (Lammle's RIPv2 PT labs were great)
subnettingquestions.com <---this is all I did last night - much better than a last minute book cram

I think it was all useful. The Lammle material isn't as deep as Odom but I would tell anyone who has money and time to get/read both to do so. I read Lammle cover-to-cover and read Odom when Lammle didn't cover something with enough depth. Having taken the test now, I can safely say that Lammle's book had everything necessary to pass, while Odom gave me the sort of well-rounded knowledge I need to actually apply some of this on the job. I found Lammle's writing style more digestible (especially early on when so much of this was gibberish), but if I had to have just one at my desk for reference I'd go with Odom.

Boson was also excellent. I wish it was cheaper because I now see how essential a good test engine is. I'm glad you guys (fluffymom in particular) emphasized the importance of this, because I think left to my own devices I would have gone in with a lot of false confidence and failed.

Question about ICND2 for anyone who is working on that (or better yet, has achieved it) - is Odom's material for this as solid as his ICND1 book? Would you recommend any particular version of it? My default would be the Kindle edition since it's cheaper (more money for Boson) and I take my tablet everywhere, but it doesn't come with the CD.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.

    Congrats!

I also read Sybex CCENT book for my ICND1 test, and for ICND2 I read the CCNA 7th edition and also Odom's ICND2 book. I have to agree with you, cisco press books have more detail than the sybex book so you can't go wrong with it.

    Good luck with icnd2!
