Had an interview as a penetration tester this morning

I talked to a recruiter a couple of days ago about a job I applied to on ideed.com for a penetration tester with the Army. Just had my phone interview this morning, and it looks like I am going to be offered the position. This is exactly what I want to be doing! Looks like studying for that CEH and immersing myself into securtity is paying off!

I was told I should hear something by the end of today, or by Monday at the latest.
The guy on the phone litterally told me, if it were up to him he would have hired me last week. I guess the Army is looking to move fast on hiring people.

Are you required security clearance? Or do you already have it?

Its a contractor position, but the benefits are great. I already have the clearance.
Its an Army contracting position near by area.

They liked that I have a lot of experience. The job is going to require a lot of on the job training, so they want someone who is willing to learn while working. They mentioned that having the CEH listed on my resume was a bonus because it showed that a willingness to learn and know more about security.

What sort of questions did they ask you in the interview? I'd like to move in that direction myself, but I have a little more to learn from my current position before I'll be ready to move on.

The US is stocking up on cyber soldiers. There are going to be many job openings for enthusiastic pentesters/security professionals. There will also be opportunities for those who are just starting out in the field and wanting to grow.

This is great news. I work for a Gov agency. Just got my Sec+ - I think I am the only one with the Sec+ cert in my department. It should prove valuable if the Armed forces see it as a requrement.

No, down at FT Belvoir. Ft Meade is too far for me.

It was more of my experience and what my comfort level. Not technical at all.

Ft Belvoir? Home of the 1st Information Operations Command! Congrats! I read an article recently about DARPA funding a project to basically make cyber warfare point and click. Here's a bunch of targets, here's the attacks you can use, click and bam it's launched. Still need guys to write all those things. Good luck sounds like a sweet gig to me!

Talked to the recruiter today, and he said he hadnt yet talked to the manager. He said Mondays are always busy for them, so I should hear back from him today or tomorrow.

So since I dont know what is going on with this position, I scheduled another interview with Amazon Web Services today. They are looking for cleared talent to work on their cloud offerings for the govt. From the sounds of it, I am guessing they will be hosting classified clouds.

You thinking about looking at AWS certs?

I was not aware that Amazon had them. My interview with them is in 30 minutes. Its supposed to be about 75 minutes long. Im guessing its a pretty deep technical interview.

Recruiter touched base with me in regards to last weeks interview.
They are going to move forward. They are doing the numbers thing to see if we can all come to an agreement on salary, and are awaiting for final approval from the end customer.

I should know more tomorrow.

Also. I bombed the Amazon interview. It was for a systems engineer, but they were asking me ALL kinds of development questions.

I don't think I am gonna trust Amazon anymore. If they are going to work for the government, most likely they will fall under PRISM if they are not under it already.

I've always wanted to get security clearance but I don't work for a company that will get me clearance

The recruiter got in touch today. I am going to recieve an offer pending confirmation of my clearance. Looks like I got the job. I dont have any other details yet.

@GarudaMin - I got my clearance while in the military many years ago, though there are companies that are willing to sponsor clearances in my area, if you have the skills they are seaking.

Congratulations. I've heard that traffic around FT Belvoir is a mess these days due to influx of people working at FT Belvoir.
