What is a good IT niche to get in to?

Being in an Admin/support role for the last 8 years I need to find a niche in IT to get into.
Something that doesn't require programming or scripting.
What is a good niche in IT that is both in demand and pays well?

I can be a quick learner as long as it doesn't involve any type of programming. ;)

I was under the impession that the next logical step for a sys admin was to move into SAN admin.

Do yourself a huge favor and learn to script a little bit.

Networking...best move I ever made both financially and from a professional/personal fulfillment standpoint.

one day I got tired of patching and babysitting servers and decided that i wanted to design and build stuff...now I do that every day on networks all over the world.

I would have thought that niche would be a bad idea - who knows when that niche is dead and then you may be jobless?

Though I went from Sys Admin to Network Engineer and love it. Want to go Architect long term.

    Choose whatever you love.

+1 for Networking. Network engineers are kind of like the rock stars of the IT world. We're pretty cool ;)

I always say that Network Engineers are like the Special Forces of IT icon_smile.gif

And if that's true....then Service Provider Network Engineers are Navy Seals

I reckon you should be a server engineer. Network Engineers make the highways, it's the Server Engineers that drive the swanky sports cars on them.
