in CCNA & CCENT
i have been studying for CCNA for the past one year.i never saw a router till last month and have been learning from scratch without any help
im basically using sybex 4 and odom book.
in the boson exams im getting around 90%-94% and in transender im getting 87% average.
my problem is that i cant configure 2 routers to communicate with each other on the boson simulator everything is okay today i tried configuring ospf, rip and igrp and when i did a show ip route there was no protocol showing eg IGRP I SHOULD SHOW ive done no shut and how come serial ports always go down after configuring ip address and doing a no shut
PLEASE IF U HAVE A MULTIPLE ROUTER CONFIG PLEASE POST AND TELL ME IF I AM READY FOR CCNA EXAMS IM PLANNING TO TAKE IT AFTER 10 DAYS

QUIX0TIC Member Posts: 277Im not really understanding your post... are you telling us that you CANNOT connect two routers to talk to each other or you are looking for someone to give you a multiple router config?
If you cannot get two routers to connect and talk to each other... then you are not ready for the test.
If you want to send or post your configs on the forum... then great. We can help you on the way there. Since you are using Boson simulator... you should be able to put to virtual routers and connect them together."To realize one's destiny is a person's only obligation." -
sainth Member Posts: 35 ■■□□□□□□□□QUIX0TIC is correct, or if you're not really sure on your question, you can just copy and paste the result after the command router#SH INT and from there, we're able to help you.

needacert Member Posts: 10 ■□□□□□□□□□okay sorry for that i need a mutliple router configuration for OSPF,RIP and EIGRP.thats what i really need.
Im also asking one i run the config on boson netsim do any of you have a prob bringing up the serial interface.Had such a problem with a leased line configuration on a live router configuration then when i connected the serial interface on the physical unit it worked well.
so i need some router labs please it will help me and other prospective CCNA students
another Q is when is one ready to take the exams?what score on exam simulators is one sure that they are going to pass ?.or otherwise when is one sure they will pass the exam?
thanx -

You stated that you habe Wendell Odoms book, it covers that extensively. Here is a basic serial connection lab and a RIP lab
http://www.techexams.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1023another Q is when is one ready to take the exams?what score on exam simulators is one sure that they are going to pass ?.or otherwise when is one sure they will pass the exam?
As stated previously, if you cant get a simple serial interface up and establish rip, OSPF, or EIGRP than you definetely need some more work. Not trying to knock you, but this is really basic CCNA stuff, perhaps its just the commands that are getting you, learning an new OS (IOS) can be tricky, especially for old school DOS people like myself
Sounds like you would benifit from some test sims, I am using PrepLogic, and its working pretty good for me. Once you start nailing those in the 90's, and you can whip out your labs with ease, then you will be ready for the test.
Good luck.Go Hawks - 7 and 2

needacert Member Posts: 10 ■□□□□□□□□□Thanx for the suggestion im still working on my labs still
from the lab here the only thing im not doing are the following commands
Configure the interface to use PPP encapsulation using the following command:
Router(config-if)#encapsulation ppp
and the
Router(config-if)#clock rate 64000
Configure the router to receive and send only RIP Version 2 packets using the following command:
Router(config-router)#version 2
anyway ccna is no joke of an exam and ive configured some routers on live systems and they were leased lines and yes i did include encapsulation ppp line
ill work on the configurations more i have labs on one router okay but problem is when i exit the interface especially serial interface it goes down.anyway im getting 90%+ on boson exam simulator but i find the exam too cheap and im working on transcender exams which im getting 87-93%.love **** though i have an old version.looking for a newer version.
but currently im consentrating on the labs.
damn i respect anyone with a CCNA this exam is no joke.
please someone paste me some multi router lab of OSPF or a link anyway thanx for the advice.

QUIX0TIC Member Posts: 277You should never "****" your way through any test... otherwise why waste the money? Just to have 4 letters under a title??? : I have some mutli router configs at home and when I finish my shift... I will paste them here. What exactly are you looking for though?
Plus, my normal question would be... why cant you create a multi router configuration yourself? That is the fun part about learning how to use the cli and working these items yourself. By me giving you a config... it will plainly work. Dont you want to stumble through the mistakes of learning how to configure it yourself?
Just remember with OSPF... is the AS group and become regimental about it with always having the BB as AS 0."To realize one's destiny is a person's only obligation." -

That could be one reason why you are having problems, steer clear of those and you will be much better off.from the lab here the only thing im not doing are the following commands
Configure the interface to use PPP encapsulation using the following command:
Router(config-if)#encapsulation ppp
and the
Router(config-if)#clock rate 64000
Clock rate is mucho importante, the DCE must be providing clocking. Unless you are connecting to a frame relay, you will always need to configure the clock rate on one end of ther serial line, specifically the DCE side.Go Hawks - 7 and 2

After one year studying using Sybex and Cisco Press you still havent figured out how to configure RIP?? This guys a fraud and wants these for his class or something!Networking, sometimes i love it, mostly i hate it.Its all about the $$$$ -

Certification is all about integrity. A-Z, period. You should uphold those values because there are people around here who've worked hard to get certified and expect the same from you.

needacert Member Posts: 10 ■□□□□□□□□□i do admit ive struggled to study for the ccna and u shouldnt condemn me for not bieng so bright as some of u to be honest i havent configured on a live router and had never seen a router till a month ago.
u got me all wrong by my lazy statement i mean i study 4 hours daily for ccna and im clocking nice marks on boson exam simulator always above 90% and i can easily configure the labs in any exam simulator coz most of those are on one router but i know ill have to configure on a WAN environment
anyway i can configure the routers and the problem is that im using a simulator and i have configured on boson netsim 5.04 and the problem is that there are some commands missing on the netsim like i cant configure the following on my netsim
Configure the router to receive and send only RIP Version 2 packets using the following command:
Router(config-router)#version 2
last week i was given the task of configuring a live router for leased line and when i did it i tried to bring up the serial interface up but it was going down when i exit the interface and i was told to travel and configure the router when i connected the physical DTU i did a shutdown on the interface and then a no shutdown the interface came up.
what can cause ethernet interface to come up when u do a no shutdown and the serial interface not to come up when u do a no shutdown on the interface.whenever i exit the serial interface it goes down?.
ive even tried the rip lab
http://www.techexams.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1023
on my simulator but whenever i exit the serial interface it goes down?
all im asking is any1 ever faced such a situation if i overcome this huddle ill know that i can configure 2 routers to communicate with each other.
failure faces any1 found this intresting thing
by going to google.com search for failure
guess who comes first in the search? -

If this is the case you have a problem with your Sim, reinstall the Sim if it still doesnt work upgrade to the current release. Problem solved one year later!!

QUIX0TIC Member Posts: 277That would be one hell of a problem fix after one year.
Needacert... one recommendation that anyone can make is to purchase 2 2501 routers with 1 or 2 DB60 crossover cables. I admit... price for many people is a factor but consider this... you are coming to this test with failure and non-confidence! With that in mind, you will most likely fail due to these thoughts. Instead of investing, 125 dollars into a Cisco test... invest 125 dollars into a couple of routers and a cable. Then you will know if you can configure a mutli router environment.
Once you know that you can... then save up money for the test and then take the test with confidence instead of lack of confidence. I would bet that you will do 3x much better with the confidence boost.
For example: http://cgi.ebay.com/CISCO-2500-SERIES-MODEL-2501_W0QQitemZ5807551448QQcategoryZ28033QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
30 dollars for this router plus shipping... buy one more and a cable and you can answer your own questions with CONFIDENCE!"To realize one's destiny is a person's only obligation." -
needacert Member Posts: 10 ■□□□□□□□□□i found that i hadnt looked into the boson netsim netmap in details and really tried to find out where the problem was.i found out that i had always assumed that routers are connected serially ie router1 s0 is connected to router2 s0 and so forth.
by looking at netmap i found out my problem and after understanding the problem i was having i did manage to configure RIP on 2 routers on the netsim by understanding which serial connected to which routers serial.have also managed to configure eigrp and igrp.when i go back to work on monday i have to configure frame-relay.
i do agree QUIX0TIC gettin a router boosts ones confidence 3 times.i laid my eyes on a router a month back and my boss gave me an extra router that we have to do my configurations and practicals and believe me routers are 10 times better than sims.
it really does help to have a router cant wait to configure access lists on multiple routers and nat on the router that i have.
encapsulation
and clock rate are really important thanx i can now configure the multiple routers
loved this site www.free-labs.com it has wonderfull labs and im still taking my exam by 10th of october ive been postponing it every month since january only thing now i need to master is NAT and PAT configurations.
my problem was not looking at netmap.thanx -
QUIX0TIC Member Posts: 277i havent used netsim enough to say anything about netmap... so I am in a bit in the dark regarding that statement.
But you definitely have to pay attention to where your clock rate and is set at when it comes down to the DCE or DTE side of the cable."To realize one's destiny is a person's only obligation."
