Failed ICND2 last week, destroyed it today!

kanecainkanecain Member Posts: 186 ■■■□□□□□□□
Last week's failed test hit the ego pretty hard. Frame Relay and ACLs kicked my butt. Frame relay and WANs in general still gave a battle, but ACLs didn't have a chance.

972/845 !!!

Materials used to prepare for re-test:
Odom ICND2 (To be honest, I greatly wish I stuck with only this book...)
Packet Tracer (Used to practice Frame Relay and ACLs)
GNS3 (Used to practice Frame Relay and ACLs)
31 Days Before your CCNA by Allan Johnson (Fantastic, quick, to-the-point, review book. Worth the $14)

On to CCNA Security and Voice!

Congrats! Just goes to show hard work and dedication pays off. I'm personally thinking about taking CCENT and then going straight to CCNA Security.

I wish I could have done that. Unfortunately, CCNA was required for school. But at least I have it, so I'm not mad. I recommend that you get it too, you will learn a lot.

I tried, I even have Lammle's CCNA book...Hate it, lol. I do enjoy Odom's CCENT book though. But ultimately, I'm just not into networking, man. Frame relay this, EGRIP that, blah blah blah. It bores me to tears. I love the Infosec side of IT though and CCNA Security I can more so apply to my current career and career asipirations.

What do you mean by you wish you stuck w/ only that book? What do you wish you had cut out or didn't use?

I found myself switching between the Odom and Lammie books. I reached for the Lammie book when I needed bullet points for a boring topic (EGIRP, Frame Relay). The Odom books are long and dry, but it's all you'll ever need. IMO.

It interests me that lots of people find the Odom books dry. I love his writing style and don't really care for Lammle. I used his book for iNet+ years ago and couldn't get through a Network+ book of his. Odom seems to have a love of communications technology that's hard to miss.

    *shrugs

Guess that's why they both are so successful! They each speak to us differently.

Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.
