Should I take general IT position

I just finished an interview for a position that is a jack-of-all trades type job. It was advertised as a Network Admin job, but when I got there they said they listed it wrong. The job is for a chain of convenience stores and includes setting up and maintaining ip security cameras, pos systems, servers and some networking. They currently have an IT guy who will be leaving the company in a year and would like to hire a trainee. So I would be training for a year. They also want me to sign a non-commit agreement if I get hired, but they hadn't decided for how long. I just finished my CCNA, and I really want to get into a networking role. I currently only have 6 months help desk experience, would the experience from this job plus my CCNA and finishing my bachelors help me move into a Network Admin role or should I wait for a noc or more network focused job?

You're in Phoenix with a CCNA and some help desk experience... Personally, I would pass on that job. I would wait for a NOC position or something else that doesn't have to do with labor security camera, and POS work.

Unless the pay is an incredible raise, I'd pass on it.
Mostly because the job would lock you down for an extended amount of time. They want someone long term - probably someone who'll be there for years. If you're itching to get into Networking, that's probably not you.

I agree, pass on the job and keep looking for some entry level networking gig.

Yea passing would be the right thing. I haven't really seen any entry networking stuff, so I guess I just gotta be patient. The only jobs I've seen for noc type stuff is server building and admin.
