I dont know whats the cost in AU but you can go to www.prometic.com or ww.vue.com and find out.

I passed all my certs by doing self study. I never attended a school, training center, or academy. Its all about self discipline.
    What next?

Pricing: See www.prometric.com for pricing. Look for the 640-801 exam from Cisco. The EU price is 125 EUR + VAT.

    Details: See www.cisco.com/go/ccna

You could definitely get through CCNA with self-study if you are motivated.
Buy the Sybex CCNA Guide from Todd Lammle and read it. If you feel comfortable after reading it you should go for practice test like Boson and the stuff on this site.

If the Sybex Guide does not appeal to you or leaves to many questions open you should think about some more classes.

The passing score is 849 with a score range of 300-1000, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, the passing score is pretty high and the exam is though.
But that makes the cert what it is icon_smile.gif

CCNA goes very well with MCSA and MCSE.

That is one thing I am lacking with myself and I have to recert... MOTIVATION is a biotch when you just dont feel like cracking a book!

    Hi Pod

I'm doing the Academy course at the moment and its a lot more in depth than what you actually need to pass the CCNA but obviously it takes a lot longer than if you were to self study. The problem now is that there are a lot of people saying that although the academy goes into greater detail on some subjects, they are not covering everything needed to pass the exam!!!

The other big down side to the academy is that you don't recieve any formal qualification for doing it. Its a case of.. if I knew then, what I know now...would I have gone in for the academy? The answer is NO

I decided to start my own study plan and although its very long (8 hrs a day) I have covered and understood more in 2 months than the other guys on the course have done in 6 mths.

The exam is an 85% or 849/1000 to pass, so yes it is harder than some other exams but if you have a bit of foundation knowledge I think you should get it sorted in 3 to 6 mths (maybe less) depending on how hard you decide to study.

If you go for self study get the Sybex 5th Edition study guide and some real routers and switches (3 of each would be good) but if you can't afford the real thing..A sim will do (Boson or Routersim)

Good luck with what ever way you decide to go ;)

Academy classes are always good. They just take hella long but are very good. Where else can you get a class for Cisco and have comrades go through the same questions and concepts as you do. Plus, if you dont understand a concept, then you have someone to bounce off your questions.

Personally, I went through the self-study portion of it and I picked it up easily. I admit that I went to a 2 week course in the year 2000 due to being unemployed but since then... bc I had an instructor to bounce my questions off... I think that I had a great foundation to start my self study. I do plan to take the academy course some day just to see what it is like. But, do to work schedules.. .blah blah blah... maybe someday.
