cisco network engineer as a career?

for those of you who are already cisco engineers,do you think training to become one is a good idea.
Is it around for a long time do you think or will it be made redundant by other technologies.

You should be shooting to become a network engineer, not a certain vendor or specific implementation of the technology. Networks are going to be around for a long time whether they be Cisco, Juniper, Brocade or some new vendor that comes along. Learn the fundementals and how things work and you should be good to go.

That being said, Cisco certifications are still the most widely recognized in the industry and a great thing to have.
