how do I prepare for tech. screening for desktop support?

It is for a desktop support job. It is going to be an over the phone "technical screening", I was told it would be about 15 questions. I don't know any other details.

I do not work in the field. It has been a long time since I studied any of this and feel like I have forgotten everything I have ever studied.

Sounds like you need to refresh what you learned. One can assume it will be low level desktop related questions, but everyone interviews different.

Anything you claimed to know on your resume is fair game. I would focus on the items they were most interested in. If you're not already doing this, I would exclude certifications / skills on your resume that you're not prepared to discuss in detail.

All the job description says is:

Job Description:
-Hands-on, end user support in large environment

-Hardware/software break/fix support, troubleshooting

Qualifications:
-Proven ticketing experience

-A+ certification required

-Must be able to pass Federal background check and drug test

I do not have any experience with a ticketing system. I guess I will just review A+ material and maybe my MCDST books.

Focusing on the A+ sounds like a good bet. Given the exact wording--

This may be the sort of screen where HR or a recruiter asks you (and many other candidates) the same set of questions given to them by someone more technical, and they schedule for further consideration anyone who scores well (maybe 10+ or 12+ correct).

Sounds like they want to see how you interact on the phone. Be prepared for some questions you may not know how to answer. Be honest if you don't know and perhaps explain how you would find the answer.

You might research some of the ticketing systems available such as Track IT, Remedy, etc.

With your certs, you have workstation, server, and networking knowledge, you'll be fine
