    That's entirely not the point, the point is the certs has little to do with Solarwinds NPM, and its a cert for Solarwinds NPM.

    Oh. Misunderstood the previous post.

    The questions are not entirely pertaining to SolarWinds.
    That has to change.

    Lets hope they come up with that change soon.

    For those of you who don't feel like the questions are geared towards NPM enough, here is what they were trying to accomplish:
    As most of the SCPs can attest, the SolarWinds Certified Professional program was designed to validate a network engineer’s skillset in network management, but only in part with NPM (Orion). The primary focus of the exam is on industry standard technologies and best practices around network management skills; hence validating an SCP’s expertise in both.


    So think of it as Network Management+ exam. :)

    Greetings to all.
    Just sent an email for this cert.
    I will take the exam after going through the resources, especially on orion.
    Knowledge is more important than just having the cert. So i suggest to learn first and then go for the exam as they are providing more than enough time.

    I am now a Solarwinds Certified Professional... and I still have not touched Orion. As Zartanasaurus pointed out, the cert is mostly about network management and not as much about using their products. Ironically, this exam is almost vendor-neutral, much more so than some officially "vendor-neutral" exams out there.

    The exam has a typical multiple-choice format, 75+ questions, 70% to pass. There are 5 subject areas, of those one is on Orion, and the rest are on network management concepts. Tested topics include SNMP, WMI, ICMP, NetFlow, TCP/IP, Syslog, pulling vs pushing, design and performance considerations, etc.

    All in all, I thought it was a great exam. It covers a variety of topics on network management, things that NOC techs and sysadmins typically work with in real life.

    It is relevant. I am a 100% Nagios person and passed the exam based on that knowledge. I scored sufficiently high in 4 domains that bombing the Orion section did not matter.

    Took this exam a few weeks back. Pretty decent, very relevant for network management, only a small portion of the exam was actually SolarWinds specific.

    I took this exam a few weeks ago and it has some teeth. I've put this on my resume and most really like that I have it. Its well worth the price of free. So any of you who haven't really should get this while you can for free.

    So I just got my welcome kit this weekend. Pretty impressed! Came with the cert already mounted in a pretty nice frame and came with a Solarwinds Certified Professional Branded Coffee mug.

    So far this is the best welcome kit I've received!! Not to mention everything was F*&$ing free!

    I just received a reply back from them today, so this is still active. I followed all of the steps on their website to register for the exam, waited a few days for them to email me the test info, gave up on them and figured the offered expired, then boom they came through.

    I just emailed them so we will see. I am changing jobs and going from out home grown ish Nagios platform to using the Solar Winds package so I need to get brought up to speed fast.

    I took this yesterday and passed with a 79%. I didn't do the greatest on the Solarwinds parts, but I also haven't used Solarwinds in a year. I was happy to get through it on the first attempt and look forward to my Welcome Kit.
