Mixed feelings about new position

So I've been on the new job for about 2 - 3 weeks and so far I'm unsure whether I want to stay. On one hand, the position does give me some network operations center experience with using different programs to monitor for outages and application servers. However, I am also providing support for general applications for the client such as password resets and program troubleshooting for at least 70% of the day and I wasn't really informed of that during the interview. I was considering updating my resume and moving on sooner because I thought that those days were behind me. The only thing is my manager said he liked my work and certs and would be like to have me apply for the network engineer position in a few months.

What do you guys think? Should I wait it out or keep looking?

Both. Keep your eyes open for jobs, but keep in mind that the company you are with right now is grooming you for a position. I would not jump ship unless "The" job comes along that you cannot afford to pass.

i would stay. Network Engineer sounds like it would pay pretty good.

I would stay too, give it 6 months, then if it looks like the network engineer position isn't going to materialise then move some place else. It's on the job experience if nothing else.

A while back I was going through something like this. A good friend of mine gave me some great advice and I have adhered to it ever since. Always give the job 3 months before passing judgement. I have had a job that the first 6 weeks rocked then it slowly turned into a pile of ..... On the flip side I had a job where the first 2 months were awful. My lead PM left leaving me to take on full responsibilities work 80 - 100 hour work weeks making 22.00 an hr salary. Totally getting hosed only to get heavy praise from the customer and my company and a huge raise on top of it. I honestly think you should give the job 3 months before making a decision. Job hopping can become very addicting, one bad thing and you want to hop. There is more to work than money.

Stay....leaving a job after 2-3 weeks of employments looks bad on your resume. 6-8 months. This will give the manager a opportunity to live up to his word. If he doesn't then he will know the reason you left.

I would give the manager at least 2 -3 months to see what happens.

If 70% job is something that I don't want to do and wasn't told about in the interview process I would probably start looking right away. You have to remember a job is a two way street. If you didn't hold up your end of the bargain you can garuntee they wouldn't hesitat to let you go soon.

I'd start looking for something better but I wouldn't just quit. You might get that inhouse engineer position or you might find one at another company.

why would you even put it on your resume? anything under 6 months, i leave off my resume, unless its contracting...

Because it might come up in a background check? My wife's aunt left a job off because it was only a couple of weeks and the hospital that offered her a job discovered it during a background investigation. They retracted the offer, probably because of issues with honesty.

I leave it off the resume but put it on the Job/Employment Application.
