9 days till ICND1 (640-822)

dazl1212dazl1212 Member Posts: 377
As some of you may know I have my CCENT exam on the 2nd of August.
I will not be rebooking as I want to take it as I am on holiday a month later.
I feel pretty confident I understand all the concepts its more memorizing details for thinks like Wan links and not getting caught out by tricky questions.
My plan is
Read the Exam cram book and lab along with it. Although I will be skipping the odd section here and there and labbing on anything I feel unsure of.
At work- reading the 31 days till CCENT and practice exams Boson that came with Odoms book and Certexams Examsim and a few subnetting questions. I can subnet quite well now and dont generally need a chart.
The exams have really made me look at questions properly.
Any other advice?
Really feelign the nerves now

I wish you the best of luck on your exam. I passed my ICND1 exam on the first attempt in Apr 12'. I read the Odem Officiate guide ICND1 and used the labs at my community college I attend. I also used this site: IP Subnet Practice it help you with speeding up on how to subnet. I also talked with alot of people who had plans to testing, took the test and instructors of Cisco as well. Everyone will give you a different way of how to prepare. Some may be for you, some won't but its up to you to know when you're ready!

Make sure you can subnet within seconds, w/ or without a chart.

Make sure you know all your show and CDP commands.

Make sure you know a little bit about troubleshooting - command misconfigurations, how to tell when things aren't working properly, and what generally fixes them. Things like duplex mismatches, cables not plugged in, interfaces shutdown when they shouldn't be, and incorrectly typed commands should be gimme questions.

Don't skip the tutorial prior to starting the exam.

    Thanks for the advice DNNs.
I'll get doing some labbing with the commands you mentioned.
I can subnet within seconds in my head as I got quite OCD about it before I restarted studying icon_lol.gif

My own preference is to have an exam booked for late morning, say 11am. I had been reading and preparing for that exam for 2 months, if it isnt in my head the night before its not going to magically find its way up there the morning of the exam so get it out the way. I did ICND2 at 4pm and I was unsettled the whole day. Get a good nights sleep.
This is where I went before both exams - subnettingquestions.com - Free Subnetting Questions and Answers Randomly Generated Online
Its nothing special but it gets the engine turning over, have a cup of tea and do that for 20 minutes till they're flowing.

If its your CCENT does that mean its your first visit to the test centre? If you are driving yourself make sure you know what the parking is like.

Arrive in good time, half an hour before. Have some homemade notes with you if you have spare time, or just read one of the magazines there and relax.

If they offer you tea or coffee say no as you cant answer questions in the toilet. But take a glass of water in with you.

    Good luck

I'm taking ICND1 for the first time on August 1st at 11am. Sounsds like I selected a good time according to cisco_dog. Right now I'm not that nervous because I feel like I've gone over this material so many times that its second nature. I've used the Boson practice exams to help me find my weak spots and I've re-read the Lammle material for whatever topic I needed to work on.

Now I still have those gotcha moments when going over the practice tests but not enough to warrant a failing score. I do want to do more troubleshooting practice like DoubleNNs pointed out. I want to be able to quickly troubleshoot a problem and know what to look for after a command is run.

Well good luck on the 2nd! Keep studying! I'll let you know how I do after my exam and if I have any suggestions.

    Cheers for the replies guys.
I have been to the test centre before so no worries there, did my Network+ there.
Did really well on my N+ so I have replicated the day of the week and the start time again
I definitely need to do more trouble shooting practice. Really confident with my subnetting thankfully
Good luck with your exam icon_thumright.gif
