Got the job!

the_Grinchthe_Grinch Member Posts: 4,165 ■■■■■■■■■■
As you guys know, about two months ago I was tentatively offered a position as a regulator for online gambling in my state. It was two fold, I had to pass an extensive background check and the position had to be approved by the Governor. Today I got the call, the position was approved and I start on August 12th! $22k pay increase, plus a lot of vacation and sick time. Plus it will be in the security realm covering a lot of different areas!

    Great news! Congrats!
Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for.

Yeah man the background check was a pain and was up there in being intensive. Had to provide the following:

    Three years of tax returns
A years worth of credit card statements
    All my student loan paperwork
A years worth of statements for every bank account I have
    The title to my car
    Registration
    Insurance
References for each place I worked
    Three references
    Fingerprints
    NCIC/State/County/Town check
And I have to submit a list of my assets every year

But all good now :) Formally a Network Administrator 1 (the job didn't exist so they grabbed whatever title that fit what they wanted to pay)

Ah I won't be hands on too much anymore, though I will test slot machines from time to time. But I will be helping to write and enforce technical regulations for online gambling so from a tech policy side I'm still in the game :) Might change the Masters I pursue though...

That background check seems mostly financially-related, to make sure you're not a thief or fiscally weak.

Looking at your list made me realize that I don't own a credit card.

    Congrats!

If you're allowed to, I'm really curious about how they do supply chain security. :D

instant000 definitely, anything not protected by OPSEC I'd be happy to share. Yeah, it comes down to being able to be bribed, but overall my finances aren't bad so it was no big deal.
