Who else is going to Defcon this year?

I'm going to be in Vegas later this week so I may stop by for one of the days. I usually just watch the talks on Youtube etc. And I will probably purchase the Blackhat/Defcon DVD if I get a chance.

What we need is a big IT party out in the stix.

I'll bring the beer, you bring the chicks.

The rest should pretty much just sort itself out.

Deal! The bondocks have a convention center out in the woods. I am from Atlanta, so it would be nice if there was a way to get them to come out there.

I will be there in spirit. I will be following the Def Con Twitter feed for the weekend.

My "role" at Defcon 21 will be "Hawaiian Shirt Man." icon_cool.gif

Look for me in the badge line tomorrow morning before 7AM--assuming traffic, weather, road construction, and LE between SoCal and LV are all minimal.

Any tips for when lines are shortest? I was thinking about stopping by on either Friday morning orSaturday morning for a few hours.

Tomorrow the lines will be bad but every day after is easy

I say JDMurray (in his Hawaiian shirt) should get a pic with Iris for all of us who will have to live vicariously through them since they are lucky enough to make it there.

I'll be flying in tomorrow, do you know the cut off time to get a badge Thursday night?
  • IristheangelIristheangel Mod Posts: 4,133 Mod
Not sure. Probably around 5 or 7. I know people are lining up already for tomorrow mornings registration so it'll be busy until the afternoon. We haven't met with registration yet so I can get you exact times

Everyone attending: Be on the lookout for this suspicious person:

(Horrible camera bathroom selfie but it was the best I could do in the convention center - I'll be wearing the same kind of shirt all weekend and have the red goon badge on)

I am curious about impressions of those that went today. Is it worth it to be in person?
  • IristheangelIristheangel Mod Posts: 4,133 Mod
Yes. I find it to be an excellent networking opportunity and its just fun to let loose partying at other times. I'm not so interested in talks today but it'll be fun to meet JD and others

And that will happen today, I swear! I had been up since 2AM and I was so tired after the last talk ended at 4PM I had to go crash for the night. My cell phone battery died long before that too. I ran down to Bsides at the Tucansy and looked around and sat in on a session there. BsidesLV is much, much smaller than DC, but it has a charm of its own. BH is now over and today at Defcon will be much more crowded than yesterday. I can't wait to be ensconced in a slow-moving sea of bludgeoning backpacks. icon_rolleyes.gif

Ah yes... bludgeoned by backpacks. Always a delightful part of the con. The last time I came to Defcon as a normal human, I enjoyed tons of awkward guys hitting on me and following me around all con. This year it seems to be toned down thanks to the goon badge. I still get awkward nerd hitting on me but I don't think they want to risk getting kicked out of the con for harassment so the awkward stalking seems to be cut down. Oh well... the conference weekend is still young so we'll see how it turns out!

What does Inhuman mean at Defcon anyways?
  • IristheangelIristheangel Mod Posts: 4,133 Mod
@Paul - inhuman = speakers, goons, vendors, press

@blueberries - I am happy enough not getting hit on or followed around. Not all women are secretly flattered by drunk sloppy people

    Ahhh - thanks Iris.

@afrod - I got quite a chuckle out of that too. Not sure what I was expecting... I supposed I thought it would mostly be long-haired, scruffy looking people.
