Whats Better Field Technician or Remote Support Analyst 1?

I have an upcoming interview for Lloyd Group here's the description:The Client Care Center Remote Support Analyst 1 is a member of the Lloyd Group Client Care Center. The Remote Support Analyst 1 is a new hire with 0-1 years’ experience in the IT field. Remote Support Analyst 1 will be responsible for covering a flexible nine (9) hour shift Monday thru Friday. They will assist with day to day information technology issues by email or telephone, ticket creation & follow-up, monitors the client network, respond to alerts from the network management systems & participate in rotating On-Call responsibilities. The Remote Support Analyst 1 is responsible for the ownership and resolution of each client issue that they receive until resolution.I currently do Field Tech work, which mostly is unrewarding, slow and boring. However I am very new. If I am offered the position for the same/more pay, would my career be better off?

I dont know why it bunched together like that. I had it spaced out.

Where are you finding these entry level jobs that list 0-1 years of experience? It might be your area. What online job search engines are you using? To answer your question if it were me I would stick with the current job for a while, it really depends how long you been in your current job. I don't recommend anyone switching jobs until they have invested at least 2 years into the company. I am going to assume you have not been in the field tech job for over 2 years. Speaking from experience in interviews 1 year or less at a company looks bad, employers almost always like to see you worked at least 2 years at every place listed on the resume otherwise they think the worst or that your a job hopper. In fact less than 2 years anywhere is best just left off the resume in my experience.

This sounds promising. I'd ask about growth opportunities, e.g. what level II positions typically require.

A level I position means you'll likely be doing more of the answering phones / opening tickets than solving technical challenges. Still, monitoring customer networks and using a network management system gets you away from a "hands" role. If there's a growth path, you could be a year of experience and a couple certifications away from better.

My experience is that employers won't put too much emphasis on a single short-term job, especially if it's followed up by a longer-term job. That's why I emphasize asking questions about growth at this place. I think it's a good idea for the OP to really gets a feel for the team he and whether this is a place that will reward any growth he undertakes.

Monster.com is a good start. Most large areas have such jobs. After all, someone with 3-5 years of experience costs more. You mayn't want to pay that for someone who answers phones, open tickets, monitors a screen, or works graveyard.

Thanks for your replies. This position actually found me through a recruiter. I am pretty happy in my job that I was hired for a few months ago, however as I mentioned the growth seems highly unlikely. Not to mention the drives (although I am paid) are long, grueling and tiring.

This other position seems to be a better option as far as growth is concerned. I will get a better feel tomorrow during the interview process. By the way, I live in NJ and the company has a main office in Manhattan and the other in Princeton, NJ.

I drive 3+ hours a day i love NPR!
