'i' before 'e' except after 'c'.... weird? -

wd40 Member Posts: 1,017 ■■■■□□□□□□It died again..
This time the new ssd crashed..
The bad news is I delayed creating an image or setup backup. I thought I will not need it so soon.
The good news is I enabled file history. -
Plantwiz Mod Posts: 5,057 ModWell, consider this all 'experience'!
At least you are able to solve this on your own rather than paying to take it in all the time.Plantwiz

wd40 Member Posts: 1,017 ■■■■□□□□□□It is good experience.
I tried the following:
Auto repair did not work.
Refresh windows did not work.
Manual MBR Fix did not work.
Downloaded BartPE and created a BartPE CD .. did not work because of the new bios is not supported.
Downloaded Hiren's BootCD to use mini xp .. did not work because of the new bios is not supported.
Downloaded Ubuntu .. this worked .. and copied my files to a different drive.
Tried Fast Reset .. it did not work.
Tried Long Reset .. it failed after an hour - it reached 69%.
Then I gave up and did a clean install .. it took 8 minutes .. and 2 hours to install all applications updates and drivers. -
Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□For BartPE did you press F8 to boot in to the non-UEFI bios? F8 works on my Asus board so maybe yours is the same? It's before the Windows F8 start-up menu.

wd40 Member Posts: 1,017 ■■■■□□□□□□I did some research on this and it appears that the Windows XP image used by BartPE and Hiren's boot CD can not work with the new UEFI "The new BIOS" used on newer motherboards.

Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□BartPE works just fine on my UEFI PC, the only thing it doesn't like is AHCI. So if you have an SSD and you are using AHCI in the BIOS (as you should be) you need to change it back to IDE to boot in to BartPE to do whatever you need to do, then when you are finished change it back to AHCI otherwise Windows will give you a Blue Screen Of Death next time you boot up.
It's messy, you need all the Windows XP drivers on the BartPE disc for it to work properly but it works on my PC just to let you know. But at least you are up and running again anyways! -
wd40 Member Posts: 1,017 ■■■■□□□□□□I checked the option in BIOS for IDE / AHCI .. but decided not to test the theory .. I do not want to risk a third crash
Thanks, I will keep this in mind when the PC crash again ..
