Job Market in Canada?

Hi guys this one goes out to those of you in Canada. I am in the UK. I work in central London as a systems engineer at a very large global Japanese corporation. Me and my partner are both professionals. Me in IT, she is in Blue chip B2B sales. The question I am thinking here is what is the IT job market like in Canada specifically Toronto and Vancouver. As we are planning to immigrate next year. Is there a wide array of jobs for people like myself? Or is the job market competitive. As she just recently recieved a job offer from a company in Toronto ranked the 30th biggest in Canada and I am a little worried about myself as I can not seem to find any decent job sites to give me an indication of the IT market there.

Not to sure about the total job market out there but the webhosting company I work for has a datacenter in Vancouver so there's always a potential job there. I keep telling my wife that if another civil war breaks out over here in the U.S. then we're moving to Canada.

It's big in Toronto not a whole lot smaller than London really. Lots of Canadian head offices in and around Toronto (4th largest city in North America). The 5+ experience crowd shouldn't have too huge a problem getting a foot in somewhere but it will be competitive. Huge english presence in Toronto.
Workopolis, Monster, indeed will list most and point to the major recruiting firms as well.

Vancouver doesn't pay well compared to the cost of living so that probably stacks up with London.
Weather wise it's a clone of London. In general i'd say if you're not coming with a wad of cash you'l struggle to live well in vancouver if you're intending to buy a house and raise a family.

Have often thought about trying somewhere like Canada myself. Not sure how tough it is to get a visa, I guess you can always get a company to sponsor you.

I live in Toronto and I find the IT job market to be healthy. If you have good skills, you shouldn't worry about finding a job but I'm a Canadian citizen, so I don't know how hard it is to immigrate and get a job here. I work with a lot of immigrant so it's doable. I'd suggest you to come here to find a job as employers will prefer locals over offshore applicants, unless you have the exact skill they are looking for.

It sounds like a plan @phaneuf1. When you say immigrants which countries are you referring to? Countries of the Commonwealth which Canada and Britain are apart off or others?

Immigrant as in not from Canada. Country of origin doesn't play that big a role in the country as we're so multicultural as is.

This is something Canada does that US doesn't, they protect their jobs and make it much harder for foreigners to take them away from Canadian citizens. In the US companies seem anxious to fire American workers and offshore to other countries instead.
