NOC or Data Center

I've searched the forums about this topic and I want some in depth discussion about it. One thread said that it is almost interchangeable. What is the main difference between the two?

Also, what are the usual responsibilities of a data center engineer? Is it mostly only monitoring?

It really depends on the company and not really a question anyone can answer without more detail. I've seen everything from facilities to network engineers called Data Center Engineers. NOC techs usually work on the monitoring and first level trouble identification but again that depends highly on the type of NOC and company.

Also depends if the Data Center is in-house.

Our NOC team sits in an office with remote connectivity. As the DC is miles away, the DC staff sits inside the DC.

I work at a webhosting company. Basically at our company we sit in the NOC and monitor servers while the datacenter is down stairs and across the street if we need physical access to those servers.
