Passed ICND1!!! whoo whoo

After joining the "I failed the ICND1 club" last week, I retook the test today and PASSED with an 862. Last time I took the test I was very weak on the switching and WAN questions because I simply skimmed over the material to spend more time on other topics. Well after my fail, I studied hard for a full week and got all the material down and it paid off. I even did some sims in Packet Tracer to get the concepts down while running through the configs and seeing things work.

I've got ICND2 scheduled for next month so the studying is not over.

Right now I'm a web developer (use to be a hardware support tech for 9 years). A year ago I realized I've lost my passion for IT due to this job in web dev/design. I wanted a change and have always been interested in networking but due to poor career choices, I went down the wrong path. Sometimes I felt like I was stuck in Web dev/design. Well I decided to make a change and get my CCNA. I had my A+ from the late 90s but that was so long ago I wasn't sure what I was in for when it came to the CCNA. The ICND1 fail was a GREAT learning experience so never beat yourself up on a fail. Learn from it and conquer the test! If I can do it, any one of you can succeed as well. Remember it takes dedication but the rewards are worth it!

Here is a recent quote from Neil deGrasse Tyson. I know its science themed but the general theme fits for us folks who are trying to get these Cisco certs.

"In whatever you choose to do. Do it because it's hard, not because it's easy. Math and physics and astrophysics are hard. For every hard thing you accomplish, fewer other people are out there doing the same thing as you. That's what doing something hard means. And in the limit of this, everyone beats a path to your door because you're the only one around who understands the impossible concept or who solves the unsolvable problem." -Neil deGrasse Tyson

Good luck on your studies and never give up!

    Thanks for the congrats! Feels good to finally join the success stories.

    @CDRichards

    I used the Todd Lammle CCNA book, Boson Practice exams, INE videos which were free through some special offer, Packet Tracer, and a small hardware lab at home. Really you would do fine with a software based sim software. Make sure you thoroughly go over the chapters in the book and take notes. My book is full of notes and bookmarks. I take it with me everyday at work and study when I have free time during the day. After work I would study at night before bedtime due to a 3 yr old. Just fit in as much studying as possible and don't have too many large gaps between studies. I spent several weeks studying subnetting to the point where it was second nature. Once your brain feels like you can't take another review session and you dream about show commands, you're ready.

    @sixtyten - I'm doing the newer CCENT and the Todd Lammle book isn't out in the UK yet icon_sad.gif Everybody says it's a good book so will buy it when it becomes available. Using Bson and GSN3 at the moment but having trouble finding IOS images for GSN3, all part of the learning curve.

    Good luck with the ICND2.
