I got a job doing customer/tech support at an awesome web hosting company. The job is cool and advancement is built in to the job. Actually if you arent moving up after a year, they will fire you. Its basically a linux systems admin job with customer service being the lions share of the job. as you get more experience, they move you up levels till you can transfer into the department you want. It is a medium size company with 255 employees (half are customer support techs) cons of the job are: 1 hour (or more) each way to get there, not much in the way of pay ($16/hr) and it is in culver city (i dont like the city)
the problem is, i just got a call for a job as a network intern getting paid a little better, getting hands on networking experience with cisco networks, and its closer to home. downside is there are only 10-15 employees(place is only 10 years old). Im sure I can get a year or 2 in here (though im studying my
@$$ off for a verizon security gig) and get the experience i need to do some real security after that time, but I wont get the support of the larger company, and the straight up LINUX experience as where Im at.
Is it even ok to leave the job after only 2 months? does that look terrible to prospective future employers?
