Job hiring process question

I got a call from a corporate recruiter for a major wireless company. We talked about my resume, salary requirements, different aspects of the job, and he also asked several technical questions. Everything went well, and he said he is forwarding my answers and resume to the hiring manager, and that if I didn't get a call from someone within the week to give him a call back.

Is it likely I actually get a call back from the hiring manager?

If I do get a call back what kind of questions can I expect from him over the phone?

Is it likely you will receive a call back? No idea, how qualified are you for the position. Not certain anyone here is going to be able to answer that one for you, sorry.

Definately call the recruiter back though if you do not hear in the time frame he told you.

As far as your second question, again, no idea. It depends on what topics you have already covered. You could inquire about the company's business model or products, or maybe more detail of the things you already know. Maybe nothing further and you go for a face-to-face interview.

That depends on how well your resume, salary requirements, and answers to the technical questions meet the role's requirements. If you're one of the best matches, and the position is still open, they will probably call you.

If the employer decides to proceed, they'll likely ask your availability for a phone or in-person interview.

I'd add, nothing you do should hinge on the probability of a call back from this recruiter. You should continue seeking out other jobs just as you would have, had you never heard from them. Waiting around is silly.

Indeed. No matter how good one sounds or how much a recruiter or hiring manager sweet talked you, keep others lined up.

I was in talks with one of the big 4 in wireless... it was a looooong process, several months. I did not get the job, but met with them 4 or 5 times, and had countless phone calls with them.

like NetworkVeteran said, keep applying at other places, dont put all your eggs in one basket... and don't expect things to move quickly with a large company

I received an email this morning from the manager wanting to do a phone interview this week and scheduling a time. I asked for Thursday, but he ended up wanting to do it tonight. Did the interview, and was actually surprised he didn't ask any technical questions. We talked mainly about my background in the military, and the job duties.

In the end he said he that I had a great opportunity, and that he feels like I have everything he is looking for. He has to talk to the director, but says he wants to schedule an in person interview next week, and that he would email me in the morning with more information.

Is it odd that there were no technical questions asked?

I don't think it's too odd. My manager isn't too technical and doesn't ask technical questions. That is left to the more senior engineers when an interview is set up.

Nope. I've had a few jobs where there were no technical questions.

At any point in the process.

And that was a "multiple 6 figure" job... I had worked the same equipment for 3 months on the other side of Baghdad, and it would have been pretty much impossible to find someone with a Top Secret SCI clearance and who knew the entire system top to bottom and was ready to go now..

To tell you the truth, I prolly undershot what I could've asked (and gotten) salary-wise by at LEAST 25%... Sometimes you just apply for a job where it is a perfect storm of who recommended you, how you came across in a "get-to-know-you" interview... I was personally recommended by the guy leaving the position, and he even went so far as to give me the list of technical questions he had given to the hiring manager. They never asked me a single question other than, "How much?" and "When can you start?"

Coulda had something to do with it being a position in direct support of the Commanding General of U.S. Forces, Iraq.

I would just continue looking for work. I have been actively searching for jobs for months, 4/5 recruiters will not call you back to update you. There has been a couple of companies who I have had to ask to remove my resume completely from their database. Expect the worst hope for the best. I was getting zero traction in my job search then boom I was offered a Job working at cisco, it will happen just be patient.
