In a dilemna help!!

Ok so i have been applying for jobs like crazy trying to break into IT. 8 habe 3 years experience at a local business just doing the basic computer stuff. I work at a cheese company where i make 25 dollars and hour working from 3-11:30 with rotating days off. I just got back from an interview with an entry level position working from 9-5 monday through friday. The pay is 10 dollars an hour with pay raises as you do good and its 1099. I explained to him that i wouldnt be able to do it since i cant survive financially going from 25 to 10 with 2 kids amd a wife and house and car payment. So he said he could work around my schedule so i would basically work from 9 to 2 at the it job and leave to my other job ay around 220 to get there in time. So i would basically be gone all day 3 days out of the week and the remaining 4 i would be home in the morning for 2 days and the other 2 in the afternoon. What woukd you guys do. And i am 22 years old.

Frankly, I would keep the $25 per hour job and consult on the side until I built up enough business to go on my own.

Not judging, but at 22 you already have 2 children you need to look out for and starting in IT (depending on where you live) you will be in that $10-15ish range for a bit. If you can prove yourself as a professional, than you can walk in at a higher level, but if you look for entry level, you will likely see a sizable pay cut.

Another option is to keep the current job and gain some type of degree and/or certifications. Not going to be easy or clean cut either way you go.

Plantwiz is correct. Any entry level IT position will start you off well below what you make now. Working part-time is one option until you can build up your resume with IT experience, but starting out may be somewhat difficult. Consulting is one way to do it, and that would allow you to set your own time, and gain experience at the same time.

Thanks for your replies guys. I am currently in my second term at wgu and need 60 more CUs to finish. I have my MCITP:EA certification as well as my A+ and Net+. If i did do the consulting on the side, how would i do that. I dont really know know too much of the consulting aspect.

Well I have IT experience but not to broad. I have been with a local tax business for 3 years now and its just basic setting up their software, printers, routers, and networking their pc's together. It doesn't deal with server 2008 since they only have 4 pcs in the office. And I am with WGU so when I started I already had 70-640, and I since the exams were already originally scheduled to retire in July I asked my mentor if I could knock those out before they retired and I passed my last exam on August 1.
