Gym at work

How many people have a gym at their work and/or nearby?

My new job has a gym onsite, and a really cheap membership. Ideally I think I would like to workout before work, and then just shower there and work my day and go home.

I would also have time to do it on lunch or after work, but I think the morning is best....

but that isn't the point of this post.. for those of you who do this, what do you do with your clothes? do you just leave sweaty gym clothes in a bag in your car all day? doesn't that get pretty gross?

Edit to add: I live close to work, but not close enough I could workout then go home and shower and/or change. I'd have to bring gym clothes and work clothes to work

I use my employer's gym 5 days a week usually around 11/12ish.

My gym bag has a bottom compartment separate from the main one. That's where I keep the used clothes.

Also Google "sneaker balls".

When I do go to the gym at my work I typically leave my stuff in the locker there. Not many people use the gym so it really isn't an issue claiming a locker for the day

Why not go directly after work?

If you're a gym nut, it'll be something to look forward to as the day starts to wind down. It'll also be a good way to miss end of day rush hour. And no need to worry about sweaty clothes.

I go before and after work but that's a little too much for most people. So you may want to think about going after work.

I just leave them in a bag. It doesn't get that gross after 8 hours unless you got some crazy BO going on.

After work isn't really an option, I wouldn't have time to go to the gym and then pick up my son before school got out

@networker - I didn't think one day would be an issue, but 8 hours a day 5 days a week seems odd right?

I work out in the mornings (every morning) before work plus take a shower at the gym and leave all my stuff in the car with no problems. Most bags are designed with moisture barrier in mind so those barriers lock in moisture along with the odor. Now if you forget your bag in the car as I have a done a few time you get a rude awakening when you open the bag.

I work out at my employer's gym every morning. Your clothes being in a bag for the day will be fine. Hell, I play hockey once a week and leave that bag in my trunk. Either I'm immune to it at this point, or it's not that bad.

Not to me. I really don't know what else you would do with them for the 8 hours.

I don't use the gym at work. But when I used to live closer to the office, I would jog to work (we had a shower in the office). I had a plastic bag, basically like a big size Ziploc bag which I would seal in my running clothes for the day. It worked well and kept out any offending odors for the more delicate noses.

lol this has all sorts of epicness dripping off of it. I have a couple FB updates daily about people going to the gym.

Anyway, I loved having a gym onsite at my last job. I'd go in the morning, or after work. I'm more of a morning person, so I'd get up early and get there. Have the place to myself. I just put my clothes in a plastic bag and tie it up nice. Maybe I don't sweat much, or maybe I always smell like nice, freshly opened networking equipment, but I never had a problem putting the plastic bag in my gym bag and tossing it under my desk. We did have lockers but there seemed to always be items missing so I didn't trust my stuff there. Looking back, I could've just bought a lock...

A decent gym bag will gave divided sections, those should contain the stench....just don't forget it in your trunk over the weekend.

Also a roll of garbage bags in the trunk can come in handy for this, use one every week or so.

I have a gym in my building. It costs me $10 for a lifetime membership as long as I'm working at the place I'm currently at. I put my dirties into a plastic bag. But I workout after work so they don't sit for hours.

I've never had the luxury of a gym/shower at my place of work...I would definitely take advantage of it! Even with a shower I would ride my bike to work a good bit...as of now I just go after work.

Well, I like working out in the morning for two reasons:

1) I like to give my metabolism a pick-me-up in the morning.

2) I only have to get ready for the day once... I don't know about everyone's routine, but I shower in the morning... and if I went to the gym after work, I would be showering again. Saves time to just work out first, then shower.

Morning for sure, I know it can suck getting up that early sometimes but definitely like it better. My gym gets way to packed in the afternoon its ridiculous.

I would love it if my job had a gym. When I used to work for the city government, I had access to the gym at the police station. I used to go there around 7-8pm and it'd be empty 90% of the time and it was a nice setup. I invested about $1600 into building my own home gym, so I work out in the mornings before work. I can't see doing it any other way now. We have people that go jogging/walking during their lunch breaks and I don't know how they do it. We don't have showers here.

My work just got a gym. I'm not really interested in it though. My apartment complex has one too and I wait until winter to start using it. I've been commuting to work by bicycle half of the week for the past 6 months and go mountain biking on the weekends. I'm also adding running to my exercise routine. On top of that I like to take brisk walks on my breaks at work. If I sit around for extended periods of time at work then my brain starts to feel like mush.

I've got a gym right around the corner from my office, and usually hit it at lunch every day. Yeah, I just leave my sweaty clothes in a bag in the car after I'm done. Yeah, the bag is gross and smelly when I open it when I get home. Not a huge deal, though, it's not like it stinks up my car.

Usually when i go for a jog in the morning and heard to work afterwards, my body gets flexible during the day and i become active during the day but that wont work out if you are not used to exercising your body because your muscles might tighten up causing your body to be heavy but any way i also like a good exercise in the evening, so generally in your case i think you should just continue exercising in the morning and after work but just bring some fresh cloths for exercising, a towel, some deodorant and you could also take a shower after your exercise in the morning if sweating is the issue.

I wish my job had a gym in it or nearby. I actually travel back to the area where I live to go to the gym 4 days out of the week (I work out east, then travel to the west near the city, then travel a little east again to go home). I would work out in the morning (if I had the energy or slept earlier) but I think has been adjusted to prepare for evening rituals more than morning.

you put your dirty gym clothes in a garbage bag and then in your gym bag?

When I worked out at the gym at work prior to my shift, I used to put my dirty workout clothes in surplus grocery bags from the house and then into my backpack/gym bag that would stay in my car (bag unzipped but not open, car windows cracked just a bit in the summer if possible).

I would fold my clothes just as if they had come out of the dryer. Something about bunched up, sweaty clothes harbors mildew/mold, IIRC.
