The 2011 (ISC)²® Global Information Security Workforce Study indicated for the first time the enormity of the gap between demand for cyber security workers and supply. The 2013 study, conducted by Frost & Sullivan, in partnership between (ISC)² Foundation and Booz Allen Hamilton, shows the top five skill sets lacking are security analyst, security engineer with skills in planning/design or application, security auditor, and security architect. US military veterans who are returning to the civilian workforce provide a viable pool of motivated, intelligent professionals with a solid work ethic. However, this talent pool needs training and placement assistance to ease their transition into the civilian workforce.
The U.S.A. Cyber Warrior Scholarship, presented in a partnership between (ISC)² Foundation and Booz Allen Hamilton, provides underwriting for training, textbooks, phone application-enabled study materials, certification testing and placement of qualified* returning veterans who served in the United States Military. This program will focus on four (ISC)² certifications that will better position returning veterans to transition into the civilian workforce: SSCP®, CISSP®, CAP® and CSSLP® (or Associate of CISSP or Associate of SSCP).

Applicant Pool[/h]Numerous job ratings within the military require security certification under DOD 8570, however many service men and women perform tasks that would prepare them for work in information security if they received additional training. Individuals qualifying for the U.S.A. Cyber Warrior Scholarship would need to have performed certain IT-related functions while in the service. A list of those functions is included in the application form.
[h=2]Applicant Qualifications:[/h]
[h=2]*Certification Qualifications[/h]CISSP qualifications: minimum of five years of direct full-time security professional work experience in two or more of the ten domains of the CISSP CBK®, or four years work experience plus a four-year college degree. Candidates with less work experience become Associate members until they achieve the work experience requirement.
SSCP qualifications: Minimum of one year of direct full-time security work experience in one or more of the seven domains of the SSCP CBK.
CAP qualifications: Have a minimum of two years of direct full-time security professional work experience in one or more of the seven domains of the (ISC)2 CAP CBK.
CSSLP qualifications: Have a minimum of four years of professional experience in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) in one or more of the seven domains of the (ISC)² CSSLP CBK or three years of recent work experience with a four-year college degree, or regional equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT) or related fields.

- Honorably discharged from one of the five branches of the United States Military
(Supply copy of DD214 short form) - End service date must be between 7/1/2008 and 7/1/2013
- Worked at any of the following levels: IAT I, IAT II, or IAM I. (Note: holding a certification within those levels does not prohibit an applicant from applying for this program. This program is designed to assist returning service people to “train up” to the SSCP, CISSP, CAP or CSSLP certifications)
3a. Performed 5 or more of the tasks listed on the attached spreadsheet as part of their
military duties
3b. All 5 tasks do not have to be within the same technical level - Possess work experience as required by the certification the applicant is seeking (attach resume: see specific instructions in F1 of application)
- Submit to a background check if awarded a U.S.A. Cyber Warrior Scholarship
- Must complete education and exam no later than 12 months from the time the scholarship is awarded at the end of October 2013.
