clock rates

for configuring serial links, is there a standard or will any number do? I usually use 64000

    If you're talking about labbing, any valid rate will do, and 64K is fine.

    If you're talking real world, actual WAN connection, your provider sets the clock rate.

    You will probably NEVER see a clock rate command in the real world for two reasons:

    1) If a router connects to a Service Provider (WAN, Internet, etc...) they are the DCE, not you

    2) NOONE uses serial cables in the real world anymore. They were used at one time to connect to an external CSU/DSU. Nowadays, the CSU/DSU is built right into a WIC or HWIC card. I cannot remember ever seeing an external CSU/DSU in a network/server room. I see alot of T1 lines connected directly to HWICs (Data - 2900 Series), WICs (Data - 2800 Series), and/or VWICs (Voice).
