Passed VCA-DCV

I've been reading some of the blog posts coming out of VMWorld and I was getting pretty jealous about all the new shiny considering I don't get to use VMWare at work anymore when I spotted a post about the new "VMware Certified Associate - Data Center Virtualization" cert and the half price code to use with it (VCA501)

I sat through the (free) course VMware Data Center Virtualization Fundamentals, signed up, paid my money and passed. The questions are very direct and as long as you have a decent knowledge of the vmware family of products and what each part does you should have no problem passing.

The test itself can be taken from home (which is why I did it tonight while the missus is out :)) and does actually work on Linux - firefox on Fedora for me. I assume due to the home based nature of the exam it won't ever rise very high in value but it was a little bit of evening fun and forced me to brush up on the product set so it was worth a little time and money.

Hey thanks for this nice information notquitecertifiable. I decided to create an account and take the training for then be able to take the exam. Its a nice way to start with VMWare product and technologies.

I am disappointed in what I thought was going to be a nice stepping stone to the VCP. This certification is more sales oriented than it should be.. The fact that it is an unproctored exam doesn't help matters.

Hey man congrats and thanks for posting this. I had no idea they had this cert, so once I saw it and saw that it was affordable I decided to take the plunge, and like you I have passed as well. Thanks again!

Even though the VCA's are entry-level certs, I still think its going to be rough on you if you haven't worked directly with these technologies before. We have a VMware infrastructure at work so I was already quite familiar with these technologies going in. If you have limited or no experience but you still want to obtain the VCA, you may need more study material and spend more time on it, or you may need to set up a lab and get some hands-on experience. good luck!

Besides the free online training course, and some labbing, any other practice questions, reading material, etc. that anyone can recommend to pass this test?

BTW, thanks very much for posting this. It seems best for me to take this first, then VCP5-DCV.

All I used was the free material, the questions are all based off of it. I know how you feel because I took the VCA-WM for sh**s and giggles and failed it. I dont know what value the certs bring you over not having them. I am not sure It's worth the $60 or not to retake them at this point. For me it was more of hey I'll do it if I pass I pass.

Although I am studying for the VCP and plan to take it late winter, I'm very tempted to take VCA-Cloud as you said, for giggles. I'm 2/3 done with the free course so what the heck.

Yeah I'm going to take the VCA-Cloud either tonight or tomorrow. I'm not sure how much stature it will have(probably none, seeing as it's web-based and not proctored) but what the hell, it's only 60 bucks. I'm halfway through the three hour EBT.

I read this then looked at your list of certs. It might give your MCSE Private cloud cert a run for its money. icon_wink.gif

A great intro to the material without the requirement of taking a $$$ class. How do you like training? I keep hearing it has a sales vibe.

VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 – Data Center Administration (VCAP5-DCA) (Passed)

The VCA-Cloud was harder than the VCA-DCV, it expects you to have a decent understanding of vCAC, ChargeBack, AppD as well as vCD. I have a colleague who has his VCP-Cloud and he got a worse score on the VCA than his VCP-Cloud (sat and passed a couple of weeks ago).

Worth doing but harder than I expected.

Where do you go to take the exam?
  • greg9891greg9891 Member Posts: 1,189 ■■■■■■■□□□
It can be taken online at pearson view or at one of their test centers. but i think you will have to create a vmware account to be approved for the exam. thr price the last time i checked was 120.00 dollars.

    Hello Techexam gurus,

I was wondering if it is worth taking the VCA-DCV exam, i see reference to the taking a newer exam. I recently passed my network + and looking to add additional certs in VMWare.
