Hi Folks,
I am trying to configure 2950 switches, the console cable (cat5) is connected to mac.
I am using vmfusion in which windows vista is running. I am trying with teraterm but since it is a mac it is literally confusing and I am stuck.
I would like to know what exactly the settings to be made and how ?
It will be much appreciated if somebody can sort this out.

Slowhand Mod Posts: 5,161 ModI was wondering the same thing. Do you have a regular ol' ethernet cable hooked up from your computer's NIC to the console port on the switch, or is it an actual rollover cable that connects the console port to the serial port on your machine?
It should look something like this:
If you have one of these bad boys, then it's just a matter of correctly configuring your console program, (something like PuTTY or TeraTerm.) Have a look at this Cisco howto for instructions on how to connect to a 2950 switch.

azaghul Member Posts: 569 ■■■■□□□□□□ummm....shouldn't this be considered basic knowledge (how to console to a switch) for somebody with both a CCNA and CCNA:Security as the OP has?
or am I missing something?:D -
Dieg0M Member Posts: 861You need a console cable to manage a switch through the console port with the settings 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, flow control set to none. If you don't have a serial port on your mac, buy a USB to Serial adapter.Follow my CCDE journey at www.routingnull0.com
