how do I get that help desk opening?

I just got my a plus. And have littke experience in I.t. but just got certified.

How can I prepared my self for a interview?
I currently work at a hospital and attending college.

Learn by doing, that's how I have been going about it. Ill let you know how it works in a few days.

Just start applying to positions that you might be qualified for (there should be plenty in your area). Search craigslist daily, keep looking for new posts and submit your resume with a brief intro email. Keep track of where you send your resume, job details and when.

It took about 2 months for me to get a call back from 20+ application submissions. I have one interview on Friday. The best way to learn how to interview is to get one right?

I personally use INDEED and DICE to search for jobs. I might also recommend checking company websites directly (as most large companies will have job listings and the ability to apply directly on their website). Look for tier1/level1/entry-level jobs since you are just starting out. Make sure to emphasize in your coverletter/resume how important it is to you to find a job in the IT field and that you are looking for that opportunity to get your foot in the door.

Is the work you do at the hospital IT related?

Maybe look into doing a work-study program at your school to assist the IT department.

What do you do there? Do they have social outings? My wifes employer is a small regional hospital, but they still have social outings and such. Its a good way to get to know the other parts of the organization (possibly some people in IT). Its a business hosted event, its perfectly OK to talk shop.

If you cant find anything in the Hospital, keep checking indeed, dice and craigslist daily. Apply when you see something that fits you, and wait..wait..wait. While waiting, study on certs and work on keeping your GPA up as far as you can.
